I am originally Iranian, so I know tea (though I am not an expert or tea fanatic). It is synthesised but also it is not the bergamot seed. I gather the tea leaves have been flavoured with bergamot before they made into tea bags.

Are these plastic free?

It doesn't mention anything about plastic on the box, so I don't know. You could ask Ahmad Tea to find out. The Ahmad Earl Grey Tea bags do make very nice tea.
