excellent budget headphone amp/splitter
I've had this for about a year now and it works great for headphone monitoring during tracking and playback in my home studio. Volume control works great on all 4 channels, and it provides plenty of output.

Great for live and recording.
Works great for live shows to have all members have in ears off the main mixer. Most places use a behringer x series and I just pull from that into this unit and we can use headphones and go off the mix. This doesn’t control the mix. But you can have In ears and turn down to save your ears!!!

An Audio Professional's Opinion On The Mackie HM-4 Headphone Amplifier
I am feeding this headphone amp from the headphone output of a computer and it works very well. I use a cable with a stereo phono jack to feed the input of this headphone amp and a 3.5 mm stereo plug which connects to the headphone output of the computer. I have read various reviews of people who said they had hum or were missing one channel. All of these people don't know how to use it correctly. I had this headphone amp working in two minutes and the audio that it delivers is exactly the way the original recordings sounds at any volume that I care to use. The quality of the pots on this headphone amp are the same as on other pieces of Mackie equipment which is high quality. If you use the correct stereo cable, you will have no problems. When I bought this headphone amp, I also bought the correct cable. It's only a headphone amp and setting it up is very straight forward and not rocket science. I'm very happy with my purchase of this headphone amp.

worked well for what i needed
i'm not enough of a nerd to be able to give a good review of this, so take this with a grain of salt, but i was happy with it. i used this to power IEMs and headphones at the same time, mainly so that i didn't have to change the volume when switching between the two, and this works perfectly fine for that use. i didn't do a side-by-side comparison, but i couldn't hear an obvious difference in audio quality. my only concern is that the headphones i'm using only have a 63 ohm impedance, and i have to put the volume up relatively high to power it to the highest volume i'd ever want to have them at, so if you have high impedance headphones, this could potentially not give as much amplification as you'd want, but i haven't had any issues for my use case. this is a bit more expensive than other options, but frankly i had really lousy issues with the cheaper option i tried, so i'm perfectly fine to spend a bit more for a little piece of mind.
