Shimano PD-ED500 Bicycle Pedal (SPD-System) // Road/Touring/Trekking

Have used this model of Shimano pedals on another bike for years, bought these for my new bike. Easy to use, as they have clips on both sides. Bearings should be good for 1000s of miles based on previous experience. They are a bit on the heavy side if weight is a concern

These are great pedals, and a great price on amazon. Out of the box they are a little loose, which is ideal if you are new to using cleats, but can be easily tightened as you gain more confidence. Easy to fit ( they are pedals! ) and are double sided which makes them so much easier to use than the single sided versions, and also well made as are most Shimano products. Really can’t see why you’d buy the more expensive shimano range when these are so good, just to save a few grammes!

Hi there, brought this shimano a few weeks ago and so far I didn't have any problems. Easy to install on the bike and on the shoes. The cleats are used on Muddyfox shoes and there was no problems fitting. Overall good product for the money. Online is cheaper then the shop. Very pleased.Thank you

These pedals have a great range of tension for unclipping. The added surface feels better in my opinion to the more minimal SPD pedals. It's great to see SPD pedals now being designed for road bikes. Unfortunately they do scratch quite easily, but given the force exerted when clipping in that is to be expected. Easy to clean, look great and in difficult situations it is possible to ride without clipping in.

I bought these for my indoor 'spin' bike which came with dual flat/spd pedals, which have a retail price of over £80.I found these quite heavy and even with Shimano SH51 cleats there was still quite a lot of lateral movement which caused fatigue and discomfort.These pedals are around a third of the price, but you can immediately tell the difference in quality which is significantly higher.Being double-sided makes it much easier to clip in and out and for now I'm sticking with the SH51 rather than the supplied SH56 as they allow for pedal lift without clipping out.I had been concerned about these being described as 'light use only' but having them set to the maximum of 4 allows for a secure connection and I'm able to pedal at high cadence without issue.Having used them for several sessions I can say they are much more comfortable and have greatly improved performance and joint pain.

Very happy with these as my first set of clipless pedals.Easy to fit and use. The pedal cage is also handy for when you can't quite clip in straight away as it allows you to safely pedal a few meters before getting your cleat locked in.Great for commuting as well as longer rides. Would happily recommend these to someone trying clipless for the first time.
