Q: Can you put this directly onto the phone and then they have a case on top? Will it still work?

I wouldn't have thought so, as it needs direct contact to get the maximum strength from the magnet. Mines on the case and it's great!

Q: How much weight can it hold?

I've got a Google Pixel 7pro (not sure how heavy it is sorry) and it's been great.
