Q: Is this item suitable for a 2.5 yr old?

my wife and i are childminders and we use them for any ages (including 2 year olds). Obviously, have to be careful if they are worn down to small bits or if bits break off. We love them, as they don't roll off the table like round ones. I think they are probably more difficult for the little ones to chew, not being made of wax

Q: Can the colours be washed off? (ie from walls and maybe clothes)

I only had to remove some marks from the table (varnished wood) and they came off pretty easily. I used only water or water + mild detergent and I was able to rub them off.
