Behringer MICROAMP HA400 Ultra-Compact 4 Channel Stereo Headphone Amplifier

I wanted to buy a mini amp for my Sennheiser HD 660S2 headphone (not that it needed it, just wanted to have richer experience), so I invested and bought a Fiio K7 and the experience wasn't great. It was distorting the sound so bad that I couldn't hear the higher frequency beats properly. So I returned that and moved on from buying mini amps as the headphone is pretty good even without any amp. Then, I came across this little chap, I thought let's give this another chance 20 quid is not much and I'm happy that I did it. I like how it sounds, it's nice, rich, and certainly not cheap quality. It has 4 channels output that I'm not using but for simple headphone use-case it's pretty good.

I use a modified XLR to stereo jack where I cut the negative signal and link the positive signal to the second ring. I attach this to a send return output on a Behringer S16 digital snake. I plug this into the line input and use it as a headphone amplifier for wired IEM. I actually have a XLR male to stereo jack cable that is terminated at the performer end with a Behringer PM1 belt pack. This works perfectly and offers the option of looping in the mic (this will be useful when I run out of mixed foldback channels for large groups of vocalists).

The Behringer HA400 is the lower-end headphone amplifier by Behringer. However, it performs quite well as a headphone splitter and the individual volume knobs are a useful and effective function.I have only one issue with this product, which is actually quite common among headphone amplifiers, even from other manufacturers and even with higher-specification headphone amplifiers. This issue is the reduction in sound quality from the audio entering the amp from the source, to the audio it essentially "amplifies" and sends to my headphones as an end result. Many people complain of this problem, and while there are some possible solutions, such as lowering the input volume or moving the device further away from possible interference, most are ineffective.The depressing reality which I have recently faced is that it will be very unlikely that I will be able to find a headphone amplifier which is capable of amplifying audio without compromising the quality of the audio. This is a real shame but perhaps, in the forthcoming years, a new headphone amplifier will be manufactured with new technology to effectively protect it from interference, all the way through from the source of the audio, to the 6.3mm socket connecting the headphones. One likely method of doing this could be to supply cables with the amplifier which have the necessary ability to carry audio signals between devices without losing quality.Overall, I am satisfied with this product, (at least for £15), because it does the job and whilst the audio quality isn't fantastic, it's not easily noticeable to someone used to basic sound quality. I also like the 6.3mm inputs and outputs. As opposed to standard-quality 3.5mm outputs, the outputs on the HA400 allow connections to high-end, professional headphones (typically these use 6.3mm) without the need for a jack adapter, especially as these adapters are known to decrease sound quality further.

Good sounding headphone amp . Plenty of volume.

I bought this as a four channel audio duplication and disturbution system for a church streaming and podcast recording setup. Easy to setup. Audio quality is great and the quality of the pots for volume control on each channel are good and have no hiss or crackle when adjusting them. Works well with line level singals, mixer desk monitor outputs, computer line inputs and headphones. Price is just silly cheap for this quality. Well done again Behringer - great kit and great price.

For the price, I was very sceptical about the quality of this item, but it's great. Full metal body, four sturdy and well build volume controls, and super easy to set up. The package comes with the amp and a power supply. You will need to bring your own cable to connect it to the sound source. I purchased a 2.5mm to 6.35mm cable to connect it to my PC's line out. Works an absolute treat. I find that about 25-40% volume on the level is perfect for most applications and there's absolutely no hiss or noise at this volume. I turned it up to 100% and I started hearing a bit of hiss/feedback at 90%. However, you shouldn’t be listening to anything at that volume, so I can't see it ever being a problem. Good piece of kit for my high impedance headphones (Beyer Dynamic DT770 250Ohm, in case that's your model and you're looking).

Does the job well.

First off, I'm not using this device the way most people would use it, e.g. multiple headphones. In other words I use this device to distribute my digital music, via my DAC (digital to analogue converter), to four of my five mini-amplifiers. And to this end it works beautifully, it has a volume control for each of the four stereo output channels, as well as an overall volume and balance control and, unexpectedly, more headphone input sockets on it's back than I could ever use (these sockets are not displayed on Amazon).That said, the sound conveyed is clean and detailed with, on rare occasions and to my ears, a slight brittleness in the upper frequencies but nothing I cannot live with. Overall, I find this device easy to use, more controls than I could ever want (I'm a set and forget kinda guy) and it delivers what I bought it for, i.e. distributing streamed music from my DAC to my mini-amplifiers.However, there are a few things I am not partial to, such as the flashing diodes, the plastic look and feel of the device and the fact that it's bigger than I thought it would be. But again, these little nit pickings are nothing that I cannot live with because the overall functionality, usefulness and sound this device conveys far outweighs it's aesthetics.Finally, I would say that this device is well worth the cost, at under £40 (I paid £39.99), and recommend it to anyone that has to pass a stereo signal onto four other devices.
