Stick to the bullet level and two hole pin method More accurate.
I bought this some time ago for lining up and holding flanges. From the day I took it out of the box and set a flange up(flange, 2" 150lb, supported by jack stand, not hanging from tool) I noticed that the flange to pipe was not even. I would remove the tool and line the flange up by hand while checking the inner surface and the flange and pipe were lined up nearly perfect. Once I put the internal fit up tool back in there were highs and lows on the inside as well as the outside. I have tried all manner of things but have never had it work to where I didn't have to try and force the flange one way or the other to get the pipe and flange to line up properly.I have been doing this for many years by hand with bullet levels and two hole pins and figured I'd give this a try to speed things up. The tool sit's in my office, collecting dust now as it is quicker to do it the old way and much more accurate. Sumner makes some great stuff and maybe I just got a bad one but for what I do it only makes a good conversation piece or paperweight.

Ok tool no service after the sale
Have had this for several years and have used it periodically as needed for 2”. Alignment is 5/10, you can make it happen with just this tool but I use a vise grip type clamp to remedy high low. Recently one of the pins came out of pivot point, I needed parts to make usable. I thought no problem I’ll get on summers website find parts and buy. Needed a total $1.33 worth of parts, I was gonna buy spares to avoid in the future total cost $10. Apparently they have a $50 minimum order. I thought I’d good excuse to get more tools. You can only buy tools through their distributors not direct from them. Contacted customer service and was given the that’s their policy BS. So if you want to buy tools you can’t get parts for or they rake you over the coals to get parts go ahead and buy sumner. I’ll be dealing with Mathey Dearman from now on.
