Not a necessity; nice to have
you can do everything the remote does without it, but when you're in the middle of recording your video, for example, it certainly is a nice convenience to have at your fingertips

Can overload even a great computer.
For the most part I like this camera. It replaced a much lower res one. I have not done much troubleshooting but the face follow I have not gotten to work. It will get very hot. When I leave it alone for a few days, I have to manually move the camera.My friend and I like to use different backgrounds. With this I can get some lag and artifacts when we do that. Might not be the camera's fault. I'm going to see of the fast USC port will fix that. It is in use at this time. If I can get it all working I'll see about adding a star. The overheating will keep at least one off.

You may have to reboot your computer to get your remote to work
I really like the camera, I like the resolution I don't like the fact that it glitches, and I have to reboot my computer before doing a live stream to get it to work again. Everything else is wonderful.
