Does this clock hang flush to the wall or does the battery box portrude?

The battery box is recessed into the back of the clock allowing the metal border ofthe case to rest flush against a flat wall. I've discovered a tip that might be helpful: Inexpensive, adhesive-back, felt furniture pads are sold at home improvementdepartment and drug stores. These pads range in size. I affix small, rectangular padsto the back of wall clocks to protect the wall from scratches and provide extra spacingif the clock's battery box protrudes beyond the clock frame.

What is the actual measurement of the clock? In the description it states 17x4 then also 16x16.

If you measure the face only of the clock, it is about 16" X 12". If you measure the whole thing, including the ring at the top of the clock, it is about 16" X 16", so guessing that has to be where that extra 4" comes in. Hope that helps. I really like mine.
