How does this compare to the Schwinn Airdyne AD6 model?

This bike claims to be for commercial use but ours was broken in a few months. Never used an AD6 but the older model Schwinn Airdynes we have are still going strong. Lifecore has HORRIBLE customer service too. Their bike was a piece of garbage and broke in a few months (or it was already broken/defective when it arrived). They would not replace it so we're left with a $1000 piece of trash. Stick with Schwinn.

Does this include a heart rate monitor? I see a button on the display for it, but it's not obvious how this works.

The Assault airbike does not come with a heart rate monitor, but is equipped with a heart rate sensor, so it is compatible with Polar chest straps. Thank you,

Why does this bike cost so much. Is it out of production? If so, why?

The airdyne has been around for 40yrs, and everyone knows what it is. The problem in recent years was that the AD4 model was the model of choice for all cross fit gyms, Military, firefighters, police departments, universities, nfl sidelines, hotels, rehab clinics, etc, then Schwinn decided to discontinue that model to introduce the AD6 model. The AD6 is far insufficient to place in these same high traffic, heavy usage arenas as the AD4 once owned. These facilities were ordering the AD4, until the AD6 was introduced. The AD6 just did not hold up, making these clients extremely upset with Schwinn. They actually were scrapping their AD6's to bring back their OLD AD4's and just order parts to repair them. The problem with parts for the AD4, is that they are not avialable because it is discontinued, so these owners have now been turned on to the Assault and these are replacing every current AD4 and AD6 EVERYWHERE! You will see these at the next crossfit games with all of the premier athletes warming up on these bikes. Here are the differences: Assault has removed the problematic 'cotter pins' that used to break on the AD4 and made a 'direct drive', with sealed ball-bearings on all of the pivot points (22 bearings overall) vs. the brass bushings used on the Schwinn. The bearings keep a tight fit, without any wear, so there will be no wobbling effect. Assault has 12 guage 2mm tubing for the moving handlebars, which is substantially thicker than the Schwinns. Assault has improved the crank set, forged cro-moly, for strength and stability. Assault has a programmable console, Manual, 3 interval programs (telling you to 'work' and 'rest'), 4 Target programs (calories, watts, distance, heart rate), + monitors your pulse and is compatible with POLAR. Assault has a 4 way adjustable seat, fore and aft, up and down, and seat tilt, giving anyone who rides a great fit. Assault has a 27 inch steel fan wheel which creates more resistance. Backed by a 5 year frame warranty and 2 year parts warranty.
