Q: Does the cooling fan run all the time or just when pushed hard?

This series of Crown amplifiers are 💯heat-activated. They are off until around 80-95 degrees Fahrenheit. I know, I run 11 of these on my 11.6.3 setup. Full channel dedication to all 11 channels. In-Ceiling and subs are self-amplified, in case your are an audiophile doing the channel math. If I blast over 140 db for 10+ hours, yes, the fans are on high but it is truly near silent💯👍

You can run 4 ohm a channel on this amp

Q: Can I use a power switch to turn on the amp with my whole studio set up or is it recommended to use the specific power button on the amp itself?

In general power amp is the last equipment to power up and the first equipment to shut down to protect your speakers. XLS has a protection relay for delayed connection and quick disconnection for power on/off. So, it may be safe to power up and down globally. But I still recommend to turn it off before the other equipment.
