Well what a great read, great story and well written. All the characters seem so real and I was completely absorbed. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I had also bought The Family Remains in paperback and read them together. Great reading. Good that story continued to easily.Thank you for Excellent read.

Great plot with good likeable and hateful characters.

I really enjoyed this book. There were lots of surprises throughout and was a very good story line. Make sure you read the books in order as it makes more sense as it’s a two part series. Would recommend.

Interesting and thrilling story

A family taken over by a manipulative and charismatic 'cult'-like character - and his entourage - is a very original idea, and the rotating perspectives of the various children implicated in this damaging set of circumstances, worked very well in creating suspense and making the reader wonder how these different narratives would coincide. All the characters are quirky and fascinating, but once everything started to come together, the plot began to strain at the seams and come apart. You could almost feel the writer struggling to tie up all the loose ends and make it work. I began to get confused and this was exacerbated by a series of awkward twists - designed to surprise - that didn't convince. I found the reunion of the various family members at the end, sentimental and a bit silly. The writing is, nevertheless, very good - so page by page it does not disappoint.

I didn’t have any expectations for this book. I just really started to read it because I’ve had it for years, and I’m clearing my Kindle out. The story is told by Libby, Lucy and Henry. There are some twists that come out when the story is wrapping up that I wouldn't have guessed. It's worth reading.

Cannot wait to start the second book, I've been wanting to read this book for a while and finally got round to it and I'm so glad I did xx

If your looking for a real read, an indepth read, with a truly developed story, well rounded quirky character, amazing prose, and dialogue that crackles off the page, this is your read. Great story. Kept me turning pages. Because it's was a really well written book...not fluff...

This is the first Lisa Jewell book I’ve read that I didn’t feel immediately hooked. I really enjoyed the storyline as it developed, but I found it challenging to really understand it til a good ways in due to there being so many characters with so much background front-loaded. Once I got into the swing of things, I devoured the rest of it. Looking forward to reading the sequel next! 4.5/5
