I know, I know... most dogs can make the leap from a truck to the ground without problem. I bought this as an aid for my dogs to reduce joint wear & tear over time. I have big dogs and I take them on field trips at least once a week, often a lot more, and having just watched two beloved senior retrievers suffer joint issues in the months before dying I figured this step may pay off as my new pups age. This was an investment into quality of life 8, 10 years down the road.The product is heavy duty, but not heavy weight. It has a very good non-slip surface and is very convenient to use and store. I have a sturdy fold-able ramp I also use, but this simple step is perfect for loading in my Wrangler especially if I only have one dog as a ride-a-long, otherwise the heavier and cumbersome ramp is used for load & unload for the dogpack.

The media could not be loaded. This product works great for my two giant St Bernards. It is strong and does not twist when they step on it. It slides into the trailer hitch easily but it will not stay if you leave it in while driving. We take our dogs on adventures so we wanted to leave it in while we are driving so I added a pin that holds it in place. It is an easy DIY upgrade but should be something the company adds as either a standard feature or as an option.

I have an older Shepherd and a middle aged one and both use this step with ease to get into my SUV back. The older dog took some time to learn how to use it, but now uses it to both get in and out just like my other dog. They like it so much that they try to step on it before I even have it inserted into the hitch. I don't use a hitch pin, I just slide it in and the dogs jump in or out and then I slide it back out and store it either in the car or in the garage. The top surface is non-slip but not the kind a dog would like. Because of their nails they still slip a bit. I would give five stars if they used a thick rubber material on the top instead or something. I recently got a new SUV and the hitch is recessed in the bumper a bit so the step doesn't fully insert, but it goes far enough that it's still stable.
