The Ultimate Clarinet Book For Beginners: How to Play the Clarinet with Precision, Passion and Pulse – includes free online course 'Clarinet Kickstart'

Get this! Great for adult learners.
Excellent intro book for the new clarinetist. Tells you how to put your instrument together and how to care for your instrument. Also provides breathing exercises. You learn how to hold your instrument, blow into the instrument, and tongue your sounds. And you learn your first notes. There is a link to a free first course, which is very useful. This is the same Kickstarter course that you can find on Udemy. Follow up by purchasing the author's intro course on Udemy - NOT the Kickstarter course, which is free with this book. (Note that the Kickstarter course is actually the first few chapters of the Udemy Intro course.)

Not a practical learning by practice book
I respect Ms Gray and it pains me to give the book - not its content!!! 1 star: I am an adult teaching myself the clarinet, have a number of method books bur was looking for a book like this one - which I am returning with disappointment because a) is written for children, but there is way too much to read and too little in ways of practice. B) Learning to play is done by (lots of) practice not by lots of reading and it is very difficult because with 240 pages the book is not usable on a music stand, and even on a desk, since the soft cover binding makes it impossible to keep it open (a spiral binding might have worked much better).

This is a DYNAMITE book!
I'm teaching myself clarinet and finding this book to be absolutely the best teacher. I can't sing the praises of this book enough. I'm half-way through, have already learned all the lower notes and am now preparing for learning the higher notes. If you want to drain this expert's head for all you need to know to play clarinet, BUY THIS BOOK!

A friendly book for beginners.
As an absolute novice with a brand new clarinet, I bought several books and found I liked this one best. It includes access to a very basic computer course with a number of brief sections and a total viewing time of just over an hour. In the book and videos, Maggie is a reassuring guide through the fundamentals of using and caring for the clarinet, and her instruction is clear and concise.

CANNOT ACCESS THE VIDEOS!!
I have only just started the book, and I tried to use the link to get to the free videos that come with it. The server ALWAYS times out. I CANNOT access the videos! I feel cheated! I purchased BOTH the book and the videos. This stinks!

A Wonderful Introduction To The World Of Clarinet Playing
This book is a "must have" for anyone who wants to start playing the clarinet with the securest of foundations. Most tutors for beginners tend to be very sketchy when it comes to core aspects of woodwind playing such as breathing, embouchure formation, articulation, etc. However, Maggie Grey has found a way to explain these vital topics in detail while remaining completely understandable to anyone, from the complete novice to the more experienced player. In fact, reading these chapters made me want to get my clarinet out of the case and put her advice into practice straight away!Having dealt with these bedrock elements in Part 1, Part 2 goes on to deal with the technicalities of reading music in a highly accessible manner. In tandem with this, there are some great tips for developing a true sense of pulse when playing the instrument. A welcome bonus waiting at the end of the book is a link for online content dealing with topics covered along the way.All in all, this is a book written with a deep knowledge of its subject and a real lightness of touch. It's the perfect guide to enter the world of music via this amazing instrument.

a very useful book
this book was a great help to me. as a competent pianist, but not having had experience of a clarinet - how to handle it - how to play it - I felt rather intrepid when I saw all the pieces in their case. but this book helped me to understand what it was all about and gave me confidence in moving forward. I had bought another book with pictures of notes and with tunes, but no explanatory words and between the two of them I am now playing quite a few tunes.

A really fantastic Clarinet book for everyone!
I bought this book two months ago and have found it to be absolutely first rate. Maggie Gray has a way of developing really interesting exercises and giving clever tips that have been really useful. Originally I bought this as a book for my daughter to learn the clarinet with but have also tried half of it myself so that I can learn too. The book is really well laid out and full of great advice. I'd highly recommend this for any age group and anyone trying clarinet as either their first ever instrument or picking up the clarinet having learnt other instruments previously. Fantastic book and hopefully they'll be even more from this fantastic teacher in the future!

What a great book! It's a fresh approach to starting to learn the clarinet - at any age! First thing that struck me is that besides all the essential stuff you need to know to play the clarinet, this book is full of ENCOURAGEMENT from start to finish! not just encouragement to learn, but encouragement to play MUSIC. A huge bonus is the free online audio-visual course that comes with the book.I'd recommend it to anyone looking to take up the clarinet. Bravo!

Excellent book it is "The Book" all beginners learning the clarinet should have.
Aptly described as this is The Ultimate Clarinet Book. This book is not full of tunes to play but has 240 pages of great information about how to learn to play the clarinet. From how to put the instrument together to reeds, practise, breathing, tone, sound etc. Also includes a good section on reading music. I found the book easy and fun to read. As a clarinet teacher I have even found some useful tips and have recommended all my pupils to get a copy. A great book. Oh yes it is also linked to a free online course.
