Should be required reading for all city planners and urban designers
at least every 5 years. This was the first gift assignment from Roberta Fennessey's Urban Design class. What a prize! Timeless in every way.

Great Book When Written... and Today
The book was excellent. Jane Jacobs' writing style is informative and entertaining. She definitely was not shy about her opinions. The principles that she espoused back in the 60s still apply today, and in fact, represent what even today are considered revolutionary ideas. Examples include, but are not limited to, mixed use, safe streets, pedestrian friendly thoroughfares, etc. Anyone aspiring to be an urban planner or designer must read this book.

Not a good book
Didn’t like this book at all - repetitive, shrewlike.
