Is a remote blower kit needed for ventilation to the outside?

No, the range hood comes with everything needed for ducted installation. All you have to do is to provide an actual duct (pipe for the air and connect it to the hood. Please note, this model comes with U.S. standard 3-pin plug for 110V-120V. All you have to do it to provide a receptacle and plug it in. DO NOT cut the plug, because it will void a warranty.

Would this unit be sufficient in an 8' ceiling above a 36" gas range? Range would be in a standard height counter, so just under 60" below the vent.

That's exactly what I have done. My vent is Ceiling flush mount at 8' above a 36" gas range . It works perfectly. The amount of air suction is perfect.
