Light up the dark with this black 12 LED Vintage Style Lantern. The dimmer control switch makes it easy to adjust the brightness while the swing arm handle and hanging ring make it easy to position. No wiring required, just use 2 D batteries.

strikingly beautiful lantern, not so beautiful light
Pretty nice lantern. At first I thought there was a mistake, that it was painted plastic because it was so lightweight, but yes indeed, the case is in fact metal, albeit very very thin gauge. Handle with care!It works fine, lights up well, the brightness control and switch is smooth-acting, but the LEDs are the typische Angry Blue type that are synonymous with LED flashlights and lanterns that scream "LED ! ! !". At night, "cool-white" light is just harsh and jarring to the eyes. Sorry, but I'm a tint-snob. I prefer warmer, more natural light.I have to confess, I bought the lantern to gut its innards and replace the LED stack with warm-warm-white LEDs (2000K, akin to candlelight, even warmer than 2700K warm-white similar to incandescent bulbs). Probably keep the controller, but use parallelled lithium cells instead of the two D cells. Once that's done, it'll be a thing of beauty! That said, the lantern itself is quite attractive, the bronze color is quite striking, and it looks like the genuine article. Attention to detail is quite nice, in fact, *very* nice. All in all, I'm pretty happy with it. :)

Just okay. Poor light output.
As the 3-star rating indicates, "It's okay." It looks nice, like a traditional kerosene railroad lantern. The metal is very thin, but it will be okay if not abused. What I don't understand is the many reviews that claim it gives off "great" light. It doesn't. The manufacturer claims it gives off 43 lumens. I have no way to measure that, but I doubt it. The light is enough to see where you're walking in pitch darkness, and not much more than that. It's certainly not enough light to read by. I bought it just to keep on hand for emergencies when we lose the electricity (which happens here at least once a year, sometimes for days at a time), without worrying about flammable fuels inside the house. For that purpose it's adequate, but it's not good for much beyond that. I'm hoping for decent battery life on the two D cell batteries, but I haven't conducted a run-down test. It's mostly a decoration. It says it isn't a toy, and it's not. It isn't sturdy enough to withstand five minutes of a child playing with it.

Real light in the darkness!
This item help me keep my sanity during a power outage this past Winter. It helped me find my way around during the night time hours when it was extremely dark. The light intensity is great. I bought two of these and they helped keep my house well lighted. I love these lamps. If you purchase these lamps, make sure you have a supply of batteries when you need them.

Functional and attractive
Functional and pleasing to the eye. A great back up for when the electricity goes out; much better than just a flash light. Gave these to elderly relative and she loved it, and to grand kids who enjoy having their own.Takes D 2 batteries and the bottom holds them securely.

Works great
Works as advertised. Bought this for power failures and it looks great so I keep it out as room decoration when I'm not using it.

It was brighter than candles and could easily be carried from room to room
In the aftermath of Hurricaneirma, we lost power. I only had one lantern. It was brighter than candles and could easily be carried from room to room. I liked it so much that I ordered another to keep in our hurricane kit.
