A funny, clever parody that's a great nightcap read.
Need a laugh for a few minutes? Pick this up. Not quite as funny as MOLVANIA because not all of the included pictures portray the required devastation; some actually look inviting! But a good addition to the series. And the bonus HOT GUIDE insert was a pleasant surprise.

Viva San Sombrero
Very funny, as are the orher two titles in this series. Amazon should offer a package collecting all three- "Molvania", Phaic Tan" and "San Sombrero". There are several other titles mentioned in these books as future publications in the Jetlag Travel Series. I'll buy them when available. I'm particularly looking forward to "Travel for Seniors" with information on the twenty best places in the world to lodge a complaint.Iwant to know if Rick Steves' many books on European travel inspired the authors of the Jetlag Series to parody them. Please comment, Santo Cilauro.

Not as funny as Molvania
For some reason (different crew of writers?) this volume failed to tickle me the way the Molvania guide did.

Very funny guide to a fake country.
Loved this witty guide to Cucracha City the capitol of San Sombrero.

San Sombrero: Land of Carnivals
This completes my collection of the Jetlag Travel Guides. San Sombrero is at least as brilliant as the others. It's perfect for someone like me who loves satirical humor but has a short span of attention. I can read even a paragraph or two, get a laugh and go on to the next distraction. I can't recommend it highly enough. Frankly, I wish I could spend some time with the authors.I hope there are more in the pipeline.

Very entertaining!
The books in the Jet-Lag Travel Guide series are wonderful fun. With their tongue-in-cheek, deadpan humor, the books are a great source of entertainment. You can turn to any page at random and read a humorous "review" of a fictional hotel, restaurant, or tourist site. At a recent dinner of friends, we read portions of San Sombrero to much laughter around the table. Anyone who has ever read a real travel guide or review of any type will love these books.

A very clever book
"San Sombrero" forms a trilogy of spoof guide books with its predecessors, "Molvania" and "Phaic Tan". This book, like its predecessors, parodies how trendy travel guides portray any country, no matter how squalid or unwelcoming it may appear, as some kind of modern utopia. Thus, San Sombrero, a Central American military junta, is painted as a beautiful and inviting land of cocktails, carnivals, and coups.Of all of the Jetlag travel guides, this is perhaps my favourite, for as well as the usual travel guide format, the writers have added countless extras, including a pull-out "hot guide" (lampooning the tourist brochures sometimes found in travel guides), and expanded advert pages. Interestingly, San Sombrero began as an advert, when "Molvania" advertised a faux travel guide called "Viva San Sombrero" - perhaps they liked the idea so much that they turned it into a real book. The advert that stuck out for me was one for the Isle of Fogg, located in the Outcropp Islands off the coast of Scotland. Having spent sometime in the Outer Hebrides, I could easily relate to the humour in the advert, and if there is ever a Jetlag guide for the Isle of Fogg made, I will very happily buy it and read it.If you enjoyed "Molvania" and "Phaic Tan", then "San Sombrero" will definitely be for you.

Great laugh!
I am a fan of this series and have all other books by jetlag. This book is a great fun if you appreciate this sort of humour (I do). My favourite one is Molvania, perhaps because I know Estern Europe more than Latin America. However if you want to lift your mood -- buy this book and read and re-read it wherever you are a bit down. it's better to laugh at cultural peculiarities rather than being frustrated and being a grumpy tourist :)

My adult sons love these books
Like the others by this author, this is a wonderfully "silly" read and great for when you feel like a laugh and don't want to think too much! My sons, in their 30s and successful professionals, always pick them up when they visit and inevitably fall about laughing!

Five Stars
Very funny - probably you don't want to read this straight after the other books in the series.
