Positive Parenting for Autism: Powerful Strategies to Help Your Child Overcome Challenges and Thrive

Wonderful Tools
This book was fantastic, and had so many wonderful tools and techniques. I was recommended to read this book by the neuropsychologist that diagnosed my son with ASD, but as I also work at a school, I can see how beneficial this could be for ANY child. There are so many techniques that make sense but that people normally wouldn’t do on their own in this book. I could see myself using this on any other children I may have later on in life, or in my own classroom. I don’t understand all the negative comments about ABA being abusive. I have only seen progress from this therapy.

Helpful read
I have an almost 4 yr old non-verbal son, who has mild autism. During therapy, he often whines and runs around to avoid having to complete what's being asked. His therapist suggested ABA therapy. I agree, however, being full-time working parents, there is not enough time in the day to take on another needed therapy. After doing some research, this book popped up and I immediately ordered it. I really don't enjoy reading books about autism, because they can get a little overwhelming with medical jargon. This book, however, is so straight forward. Real world examples follow every term, so it's explained easily for someone like me, who just wants to get to the point. It's not a huge read either, and it has data sheets you can fill out in the back. So far, this has been my favorite book to read to help guide me on this journey with my little one.

Great book for parents of children with autism
We have ABA sessions in our home(s) but the service providers aren't there with you every moment of every day. This book has helped me to stop and look for causes and signs for "unwanted" behaviors (such as throwing, hitting, etc) and how to best work to understand the root of the behavior and how to work to decrease or stop them. It also teaches how to encourage and further develop "wanted" behaviors (such as asking for help, helping to clean up after themselves, etc). I really recommend this book even if you (like me) are participating in ABA and especially those who haven't heard of it or do not have the resources available to provide ABA (whether that be that there isn't any ABA providers in your area or for whatever reason). We all want our children to be happy, have their needs met, be able to express themselves appropriately and thrive.
