Stopped my symptoms
I wrote this review (below) for the ointment version of this product. That was 3 weeks ago and I've since purchased the gel version. This product has worked so well for me that my doctor and I decided today to postpone going on an injectable drug---which I was scheduled to do as the next step in treating my psoriasis. Here is that first review I wrote 3 weeks ago about the ointment version of MG217:_____________________________________________________________________I had my first ever psoriasis episode nine months ago and it has been horrible. The psoriasis I have affects the palms and soles of the feet. It can make walking and using my hands very painful when there's a bad flare up. My skin is inflamed and it can feel like it's on fire. I have scaling and excess skin that can accumulate and peel off in strips and I also have very thickened skin in some areas. It's a mess!Last week, I started using MG217 ointment which I found almost by accident at my drugstore. I apply it to my feet with occlusion at night. ( Using a large-size surgical glove with the fingers cut-off works great. You can wear a sock over the glove to keep everything in place.)After the first night I noticed an improvement. My skin was much less red. The scaling and excess skin production stopped. And the pain stopped. I'm now going on day six. It's not that the psoriasis has disappeared--=but everything is much, much better.Psoriasis has been one of the worst health struggles I have ever had. First, I failed the corticosteroid ointment treatment, clobetasol. Then I went to a Psoriasis center where I had 20 sessions of PUVA (light treatment therapy) which also failed. I calculated that over the last several months, my insurance company and I have spent 16,000.00 on treatment.I'm scheduled to go to an inject-able biologic drug in a couple of weeks.I'm hoping that by continuing to use this coal tar ointment, or the foam version, I can hold off from using the drugs. The psoriasis center that I go to also uses coal tar for some of its patients but in combination with light therapy---it's called the Goeckerman treatment.I would give this product five stars except it's still too early to tell if my improvements will hold.....and the smell of this makes me nauseous, but that's a small price to pay for the treatment.

Okay.
Seems like an okay product. Doesn’t cure psoriasis but does help with the symptoms. Biggest drawback is the smell.

Long time psoriasis patient, finally found an OTC that did something for me!!!
I am a long time sufferer of psoriasis. I have tried so many different OTC ointments and creams, and some VERY expensive stuff that worked like Taclonex, but I just can't afford to keep refilling that prescription. I have several large affected areas like my lower back and knees, and was previously using a concoction of Vectical and Betamethasone, according to my dermatologist it was the "same thing" as using Taclonex. Needless to say, the ointment mix did nothing for me like Taclonex did, so I went back to trying OTC's again. What's interesting is I previously used MG217 in the ointment form, the one that comes in a big jar. I went through that jar and it really did nothing for me, not to mention the greasy feeling was so uncomfortable. Since this tube of the gel version was only a few bucks, I figured sure let's give it a whirl. Surprisingly, this has been working well for me! Use of this gel over the last four days has cut down the redness and flakiness SIGNIFICANTLY! It's the same 2% coal tar that's in the ointment so I'm not sure what's different, but I'll be darned if my skin isn't looking so much better. At only $6, this is a God send for me. I've spent thousands on medications and the ones that worked, I couldn't afford to refill twice. They need to sell this stuff by the case since the tubes are so small, where's Costco?

Nice and not so nice...
Smells really nice and very soothing. But did not show any improvement with my skin.

This stuff did nothing except feel cool to the touch when I put it on
This stuff did nothing except feel cool to the touch when I put it on. I use t-gel for psoriasis on my head and it heals it quickly so I thought the coal tar would work as well. This was a total waste of money, I later bought eucerin exema lotion and I got immediate relief that last 16 hours or more. It's now almost healed. Don't waste your money,

it works better than steroid creams
so 1st let me say I would have given this product 5 starts if it had a better smell. For that reason I use it at night only and it does the trick. I wish I took a before pic I had at least 3 or 4 big quarter size inflamed with broken skin patches on my leg. I have been using this for 6 days and its completely gone. It does have a dark yellow tint to it. I also tried the black coal tar soap but this stuff worked better.

The Best
This is the best ointment for psoriasis that I've ever used. I've tried a great many ointments etc. since I first got psoriasis in junior high school and this is the only one that dries quickly, hardly leaves any traces of residue, and of course works to clear the psoriasis. You absolutely must use it at least once daily in order to clear up the patches and maintain clear skin. It's the bane of those who of us who suffer from psoriasis but I tell you that as long as you use this stuff religiously, you'll have continuously clear skin.Tip: if you're like me and have it all over your scalp then go on down to some place like Sally Beauty Supply and get one of those bottles with the applicator tips and mix this ointment with water and you can spread it easily throughout your scalp daily. Be sure not to dilute it too much at first or else it'll take much longer to take effect, but thereafter you can dilute it a bit more to save on ointment in the future.
