Lowers Blood Sugar. Great for Diabetics
This is the preferred Chromium supplement compared to Chromium Picolinate. It has helped to lower my husbands daily reading of his blood sugar. Found out about this on Dr. Oz Show.More helpful inforation:Chromium is a mineral that appears to be involved in carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism, according to the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements. It is thought to support insulin production, and may also help stabilize blood sugar levels. Chromium can be found in foods such as meats, whole grains, fruits, vegetables and spices, but its concentration in these foods is significantly affected by manufacturing and processing. Chromium is also available in supplement form, as chromium chloride, chromium picolinate and chromium polynicotinate. According to World's Healthiest Foods, some researchers believe that chromium polynicotinate is the best absorbed chromium supplement.Cholesterol MetabolismWorld's Healthiest Foods reports that all forms of chromium are thought to play an important role in metabolizing dietary cholesterol, which indicates that this mineral might be useful in stabilizing cholesterol levels in the blood. Chromium also acts to metabolize nucleic acid, which is the genetic material found in the body's cells. Because nucleic acids are considered the "building blocks" of DNA, chromium may be useful at a genetic level. Further studies are needed to substantiate these findings, and chromium isn't considered a medical treatment for cholesterol management.Blood SugarAccording to the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements, chromium deficiency inhibits the body's ability to effectively use glucose, and therefore creates a greater need for insulin. The World's Healthiest Foods reports that chromium appears to have the ability to enhance the action of insulin, and may lower blood sugar. Unlike other forms of this mineral, chromium polynicotinate is bound to several molecules of vitamin B3. Because vitamin B3 also plays a role in normalizing blood sugar, chromium polynicotinate may be the preferable form of chromium for those wishing to address blood sugar. Further studies are warranted on the use of chromium for blood sugar control, the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements notes.: [...]So to summarize:Benefits of Chromium PolynicotinateChromium is necessary for the formation of Glucose Tolerance Factor, which regulates the body's use of glucose and helps to balance blood sugar levels. Chromium is also used in the metabolism and storage of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates by the body.Regulates HungerReduces CravingsHelps Protect DNAImportant for Proper Heart FunctionHelps control Fat and Cholesterol levels in the bodyImportant for Protein MetabolismMay help in controlling weightHelps regulate Blood Sugar Levels Read more

When you can't eat a daily organic egg...
I purchased this in February of 2013, well over a year ago, while reading a book about hormones by an ND. Natasha Turner. Oh what a difference a year makes. I think it's time for me to re-visit that book. Since then I've learned a lot and in retrospect, reading that book was equivalent to picking up a Level 3 language program when you don't even have Level 1 down yet.At the time I did not realize that I had a Vitamin D deficiency and a hypothyroid. I took the Chromium Polynicotinate along with an Alpha-Lipoic-Acid, and neither seemed to help, so I stopped after a week.I came across chromium polynicotinate again when reading that it can only be found in a handful of foods, most which I do not eat. I considered taking a tablespoon of Brewer's yeast daily, and the thought made me gag. The last time I ate an oyster was well over a few years ago. Or you could consume American cheese and wheat germ, again in massive amounts I assume. Blegh. However I was extremely pleased to find out that eating an egg yolk from an organic egg meets your chromium daily requirement.I recently tried taking the alpha-lipoic-acid again, but the one I bought way back had magnesium stearate in it. Although all studies say that magnesium stearate has no effect, but it gave me a massive headache. I NEVER get headaches and it happened 2 days in a row after taking the supplement with magnesium stearate. I was searching on Amazon again for a chromium polynicotinate thinking the one I bought last year was from Solgar, which I know from past experience uses magnesium stearate. Happily I found this in a drawer and SUPER pleased that there is no magnesium stearate. If you can't or don't eat an egg a day, this product is great.

Helps regulate blood sugar
Like many supplements, you may find that your "mileage" varies, but Olympian Labs Chromium Polynicotinate has been a good product for my wife and I.From prior experience, I've found that chromium supplements do help me regulate my blood sugar. I experience this largely by a lack of gnawing hunger between meals and better average energy levels. Possibly related to the reduced desire for snacking or due to more moderate insulin levels, I find my weight to be easier to manage while taking it. The most common supplement is chromium picolinate, but there are rising concerns out of some research that there may be a cancer risk from the picolinate version. Chromium polynicotinate, on the other hand, is a version where the chromium is bound to niacin. As a result, it tends to be highly available and it doesn't have health risks associated with the picolinate version. My wife recently started taking it and has been rather amazed at the results. One of the things she has battled in the workplace is "stress snacking", which is essentially the desire to snack when under heavy stress. Within 3 days of starting to take chromium polynicotinate, she's found her stress-related hunger cravings are way down. That's not to say that the desire for chocolate is gone or that some tasty treat isn't tempting, but that it's all a bit more manageable now. She also finds that her energy levels are better throughout the day and actually has some energy left at the end.I'm always wary of the placebo effect with supplements and I'm not very excited about popping another pill during the day and/or adding an unnecessary expense, but I really do feel this is a worthwhile product for my wife and I. It isn't a silver bullet, but it may help some people. As with any trace metal supplement, people need to stick with the suggested dose and not assume that more is better (too much of any trace metal can cause problems).
