New Made Item: Simply put this is the very best reproduction M1942 helmet available anywhere. It is exclusive and has been in development for over a year. Germany entered WWII with the M-35 helmet as standard issue (WW1 M-16 & M-18 helmets were also in use). In 1942, Due to wartime demands, the M-42 design was put into production because it was significantly quicker to manufacture. The rolled edge of the M-35 shell was eliminated, creating an unfinished edge along the rim. This edge flared out slightly, along the base of the skirt. The elimination of the rolled edge expedited the manufacturing process and reduced the amount of metal used in each helmet, without sacrificing protection. Let us explain precisely why it is the very best M42 reproduction helmet available on the market today: The shell is constructed of 1.8mm steel. The shell is large (size 70) and has the correct M1942 flared edge as well as proper pressed steel ventilation holes. For added authenticity we stamped a German wartime four-digit code at nape and ET70 over ear. The liner comprised of soft tan (cream colored) genuine leather that, just like the originals, will turn brown with age, in correct eight finger configuration with central drawstring and an M1931 aluminum liner band that is maker marked, dated, and size stamped! Liner size can accommodate head sizes 7 1/2 (60cm) up to 7 3/4 (62cm). The all leather chinstrap has a black exterior with tan interior, comes with metal studs, correct aluminum buckle, and connects to the helmet with proper D rings. The finish/color is smooth gray-green or "field-grau", we worked hard on getting to color correct, which is what typically ruins a reproduction helmet, so hard that we spent 2 months testing formulas to until we got it right. Third Time's The Charm!
Short version: Perfect. No complaints. Well done and well executed. This is the one you want, especially if you're a member of the plus-size head club. Highly recommend.Less Short Version: This is the third repro helmet I've purchased from IMA, and I was prepared for it to have the same issues as the other two (M-35 & M-16), which I discussed very thoroughly in my reviews of those helmets.Talk about pleasantly surprised! The helmet shell is excellent (as were the shells on the M-35 & M-16); the matte finish feld-grau paint does NOT scratch off with a fingernail (although it is the same shade as the feld-grau paint used on the East German M-56 helmet), and the liner and suspension were properly assembled and carefully installed.This is the exact quality you'd expect based on IMA's glowing description, and I'm very pleased that at last the actual product meets the manufacturer's hype.This is probably the best repro M-42 your hard-earned dollars can buy, especially in an XL size 70.

NIce reprodction
Yeah, It was a bit big when I got it but I realized that the way the leather liner was tied could adjust the size, Very nice product and a great addition to my WWII display collection. Paint job was solid but the wrong color for what I wanted. I knew that when I purchased it though, I'll sand it down to paint it black, If you are O.K. with a green/gray color then no more fuss. Great reproduction! 5 stars!

Very nice addition to the collection
Very nice addition to the collection. Once decals are in place it will look great next the US, British, Russian, and Japanese helmets on the display.

Nice helmet, poor liner fastening.
Fit as expected, arrived on time, very well made shell, nice attention to details such as date/location stamps, -2 stars because "rivets" were more akin to steel "brads," and the strap was fairly thin leather.
