You cant return this!
What I hadn't realised until I had got the mower out of the box, put together the handle, added engine oil and filled the petrol tank was that it didn't have a roller! I know it states clearly in the product description that it is a 4 wheeled one, but like many people you make a wrong assumption and click before you've properly checked everything! Anyway it is entirely my fault that I ordered the wrong one but I hadn't realised either that you are not allowed to return it. Hence now I have made a very expensive mistake!I have had a Hayter previously and its just what I need but I dont want a wheeled version as I want stripes on my lawn. Apparently because it has a tiny amount of oil from system checks in the engine it is not safe to return. Although how they justify that I'm not sure as its delivered to you already in that condition! Anyway if anyone wants a cheap Hayter 616 Spirit 41 4 wheel mower - check out eBay! It has never been used.

Hayter 616 Spirit 41 Push mower
I bought the Hayter Spirit 41 as a replacement for my 20+ year-old Hayter Harrier 41. My initial impression was that it was considerably heavier than I expected, however, this did not turn out to be a problem (even with relatively damp ground) and it is considerably more efficient, taking only about 30 minutes to cut an area that had previously taken 40 minutes minimum and a lot more effort. It has started more or less on first pull on the six occasions I have used it but it appears to be at first sight more difficult to adjust the carburetter, should this be necessary in future. The need to release the rotor brake by pulling up and holding lower 'push' bar for starting and running is mildly annoying but I assume this is a safety design feature. All in all I am very pleased with the 616 Sprit 41 and recommend it, unless you want to splash out and get the 'driven' version.

British made quality at its best
After years of using various electric mowers, having a new lawn, I decided that time had come to invest in a petrol lawnmower. After reading lots of reviews and speaking to people in the trade, I decided Hayter had to be the one and I have to say I think I made the right choice. You know when looking at a beautiful quality made product, it makes you inwardly smile. That is exactly what I experienced when opening the box. So much so , I didn't want to cut the lawn, I just wanted to keep smiling and admire the quality and beauty while still new and unused.Somebody said in a review, that this supplier sent out machines untested or run. This is untrue. The machine was very well packed and came with a final inspection sheet that showed that the mower had been run on idle, emptied and checked. Also, the mower turned up within 3 days. Superb service and I couldn't be happier.

Absolutely average!!
I've had this mower for three years now and feel I can now write a review for it. It's very easy to start as you would expect with a Briggs & Stratton engine and the single lever to raise and lower the cutting deck is very good. I think I would have preferred a manual throttle that you can manage yourself, as the revs of the engine can be very intermittent and inconsistent with the auto throttle. After three years both back wheels have fallen to pieces and I'm thinking the front wheels won't be far behind. They cost £20 each from Amazon to replace, so it is an expensive repair - I've managed to find a couple of wheels from another piece of machinery to make do. Would I buy it again? Only if I couldn't find something a bit tougher and with a manual throttle.

An old model !
We Bought this product from Mower Express Ltd in August 2018. The product broke ( apparently needed a new carburettor even though it was only 7 months old!) The repair was carried by the recommended Hayter dealership. When we come to collect the mower we were told that this particular model was a 2011 model!!!!!! The repair man said I may have problems in the future getting parts as the model is so old!The mower had been in a box stored somewhere for 8 YEARS!!!!I would not have bought it had I known!

HAYTER 616 MOWER
First I have to praise the Amazon order process: ordered around 1000 Hrs one day and physical delivery around 1100 Hrs the next day - well done !The packing from Hayter was also excellent - not overblown, but sturdy and effective. Indeed extracting from the box is simplicity itself. Remove the protective top layer and plastic cover, fold back the handle and tighten the wing nuts, turn the box on one side and literally wheel out the mower (no need to risk back muscles lifting it upwards). I was expecting to have to reassemble various parts before use, and had spanner and screwdriver standing by, but none required. As mentioned, fold back the handle and tighten, fill the oil sump with SAE300 and the fuel tank with unleaded, prime 5 times and the sound of Springtime lawn engines results ! The familiar Briggs & Stratton engine performs as expected and the one-lever cutting height control is easy - my old mower had adjustments on each of the four wheels ! Only minor niggle (applies to most petrol mowers) is that filling the oil sump is slight guesswork and similarly there is no sight gauge on the fuel tank either, but this is very minor. All in all, good value for money and excellent Amazon service.

A pain to empty grassbox
I bought this after Which? recommended it. The mower is very good at cutting BUT the chute gets blocked easily and the fabric grassbox is a real pain to empty. It says in the manual "shake grassbox vigorously" to empty. I had to pull it out gradually. If you buy this mower, emptying the grassbox before it gets too full may make it easier. I wish i'd picked an alternative mower because of this.

Nothing but trouble
I have had this machine almost a year and its never run well. It went back to the dealer after only being used a few times because it was not running correctly. Now I have another problem with the engine, also there is a grinding noise which sounds like the bearings. I bought this machine on the basis of the Hayter name, but I fear that its a cheap import from the far east with the Hayter badge on it. I think I would have been better of with a £120 machine from Homebase.
