Excellent Book
An addendum: The book now gets a well deserved fifth star. While discussion of sears was nowhere to be found in the index or in the main text, a superb description of its polishing and that of the trigger engagement is found in a multi page sidebar. Thus completing a thoroughly excellent book.Original review: This is an excellent book about almost anything related to smithing a rifle or pistol. It even goes through the process of cerakoting or painting. Bedding, mounting scopes and sights, metal work. Strangely, with the great interest in improving trigger crispness, it totally leaves out any reference to working to polishing a sear. Perhaps that is a legal issue, since they think the reader will almost certainly foul it up. I don’t think the word “sear” even appears in the book. This is in my opinion a major shortcoming. It could be cured by harsh caveats. But its absence is unforgivable. If you have no interest in this, then the book is quite comprehensive. If you do, then look elsewhere.

Had my undivided attention as soon as I got to chapter one!
This book had my undivided attention as soon as I got to chapter one! I'll go back later and read the TOC, Foreword, and Introduction. I find the author's writing style and subject matter extremely entertaining. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that I've had a Mosin-Nagant sitting in my closet since my brother gave my dad and me each our own M-N and a round of ammo for Christmas many years ago. I've fired the weapon once. Now I know exactly what to do with it next!

I would recommend
Overall a really informative and great read from cover to cover. Most importantly the Author did not ramble on about personal stories. Most stories were of "what not to do" which was cool Im giving it 4 stars due to me feeling that it wasn't so much focused on modern firearms, although it does mention the Glock, AR and Remington 700. There is a good portion on the Mosin Nagant and making it "modern" or "tactical".

Excellent DIY Gunsmithing Book
Excellent helpful book for the person who works on their own firearms. Another excellent book is the same author’s earlier and somewhat more fundamental Gunsmithing Made Easy. The current book is more advanced. Both proved invaluable to me on recently installing Timney Triggers in Remington Model 700 and Model Seven/7 rifles. I really appreciated the help they gave me so that both installations were done well. I look forward to using these books on other firearm DIY jobs.

Very useful
I learned somethings. Even as a gunsmith, I don't know everything. While this book is not an end-all on gunsmithing knowledge, nor is the author a Pulitzer prize winner, the is lots of good info for the novice, and a few kinks experienced smiths may not have thought of.

A GREAT BOOK FULL OF PEARLS
A GREAT WELL WRITTEN BOOK FROM A TALENTED WRITER, AND SEASONED GUNSMITH. SOMETHING, IF NOT EVERYTHING ANYONE INTERESTED IN FIREARMS CAN BENIFIT FROM. WOULD ALSO SUGGEST ANOTHER OF BRYCE TOWSLEY’S BOOKS, “ GUNSMITHING MADE EASY”. TAKE A GOOD WORD FOR THEM‼️

Well written, superbly useful.
Superb book, very well written by Bryce Towsley. Clear instructions, good illustrations, and to a level of detail that I wasn't expecting. If you are a kitchen table "gunsmith" this is the book to get for 1911's and ARs!!

Author exhibits slaughtered animals, including endangered ones
This book contains pictures of slaughtered animals, including lions. Killed by the author of the book. This is quite messed up and disgusting.Otherwise, the on-topic content (gunsmithing) is not very specific not well organized. The author tells arbitrary stories about how he ordered this parts and changed it on his or his friend's guns.Mostly basic shop stuff. If you know about machining, you already know all that, and probably better (you will not find a single formula in this book). If you don't, this book won't teach you machining. The lack of structure doesn't help either. If you're lucky, the topic that interests may be told by a specific story of this book. And you'll see one way of doing/fixing it. Probably not the best, without munch indepth insight, but you'll have an example. Can't find who's the target audience.
