My first ever Biollante figure
This is one expensive toy. Biollante is very big and very hard to come by. There's a marmit version, an Original movie vinyl version, a mini version, the American Trendmasters toy and now finally the S.H. Monsterarts Biollante! This is by far the best incarnation of Biollante's evolved form from the movie Godzilla Vs. Biollante. The sculpt is amazing, she has individual vines on her joints, and thorns throughout the whole body. The light up gimmick on her under belly is a unique touch to the Monsterarts line, when it comes to pose-ability though I was a bit disappointed. Her limbs aren't segmented like you'd expect from a monsterarts figure. You know how King Ghidorah's neck and Godzilla's tail are fantastically bendable, due to the many segments? Well Biollante does not have that. Her limbs have ball joints, but each segment forms right into the next, so all you can really do is twist them. You can still move them in intricate ways, but you just don't have the freedom to move them anyway you want. Her head is a disappointment, because the neck is hindered by the way the figure is built. It can't quite look up too high, or move down far enough. The jaw does not open nearly as much as I would like. I wanted to recreate the scene, where Godzilla's head was in her mouth. You can, but it's a very, very, very uncomfortably tight fit, which with a monsterarts figure is tough to risk, because you might break Godzilla's spines. Her teeth are actually a bit rubbery though, so that's a bit of a plus, because with certain figures when you have thin bits of hard plastic they feel very breakable. I can only recommend this figure if you have the extra cash of a lil over $200 and if you're an obsessive Godzilla fan.

The Queen of MonsterArts
She's big, she's beautiful, and if you love Biollante, then there is absolutely no doubt you need to stop reading this review and order her now.Standing slightly over seven inches when in a movie-accurate pose, and even wider when accounting for the vines, Biollante is one of the largest releases in the SHMA line to date. The sculpting on this piece is all that a collector could ask for, and there are no issues, aside from the soft plastic used may cause parts of the vines to pop off. The paint on Biollante is, mostly, great. Some paint slop in the mouth, and very glossy black spikes prevent the paint from being amazing, but the earth colors of Biollante herself really sneak in well to any collection. The articulation totally fits Biollante, and the vines and be posed to accommodate Biollante to *any* collection. Is she worth $230? Not entirely by herself as an action figure. However, when you factor in display presence, this is one of the best S.H. MonsterArts releases to date.

Wow!
Expensive. The cost really hurts here, but boy once you get her put together, just, wow! You'll still be impressed. There's not a ton of articulation on the main body, basically just a neck and some "netting" to help blend the front of the sculpt with the belly vines. The four vines are great though, you can get all kinds of wriggling, writhing type poses, and it's a welcomed touch that the jaws at the ends are articulated as well.Light up feature is a bit of a bust, the yellow-ish glow is very dull, and the red is INTENSELY bright. I would have liked if they'd pumped up the yellow a bit more, but it's a minor complaint for me. Biollante's sheer size and the sculpt will really catch any collector's eye, and she'll fit right in with the rest of your Monsterarts. If you've got the room!

What's the fuss?
First off, I received a previously opened and returned item from Amazon. I complained and was sent a "new one" but it too was opened and re-taped. It's hard to spend this much money and receive a returned item. Both the figure box and the clear plastic packaging inside we're retained several times. Scotch tape on top of cut scotch tape. As a collector, you want a better quality item and would be disappointed to get something with xacto cut marks on the box as well as all that tape. Anyway, Amazon offered me a discount on the item so I kept one.As far as the figure goes, it's huge but not much else is special about it in terms of "playability" like Kiryu or Godzilla 2000. Articulation is limited. I shouldn't have been surprised. There are a lot of video reviews for this figure. They all note the articulation and gimmick. All the reviews seem to just rave for this thing which is why I decided to pick it up. I just wished it offered a bit more for the money like if the light in the chest blinked like in the movie. It suppose to pulse like a heart beat. Don't think it would be that hard for Bandai to replicate that. I can see why Amazon has so many of these things returned. Maybe if it came with a cord for the wall socket I could at least use it like a lava lamp. Feel like my money would have been better well spent if I got Destroyah instead.

very nice figure!! however BOX looks PRE-OPENED.
I am very happy with the figure, however, the tapes on the box have been cut open and the box has trace of pre-opening; new tapes are re-applied on top of the old tapes. I hope Amazon could give me a decent explanation. it is my first purchase on Amazon(USA). As your British fellow, I am hardly satisfied with your puny effort. I paid £140 plus £35 VAT and this is what I get??
