5 Mary Washington" asparagus crown, 2 Year Roots

All of my starts are growing. I didn't loose any of them.

Update: 6/14/23Still very happy- could hardly believe these asparagus sent up shoots FIVE DAYS after planting! Most growers say a month to six weeks. I already have 16 shoots coming up off of these five healthy crowns!No harvesting, of course for at least two years to let them establish.I highly recommend this grower!Original review:I ordered these asparagus crowns and was a bit concerned about how long it might take to receive them, and what condition they would be in.They arrived via us mail in a few days. They were very well packaged and protected.When I opened the package the plants had a nice earthy smell. I refrigerated overnight in a damp towel as instructed, then this morning I soaked in water and planted per instructions on the strawbabyfarms website.The roots were very strong and long and plentiful on all five crowns. Each crown had nice firm white ‘buds’ that look like they’re ready to take off and grow, baby, grow!I’m very happy with the product and customer service! Thank you!

Got these roots based on the advice of a friend and am so glad I listened. If you know anything about asparagus it can take a few years before you have a viable bed. By purchasing these two year roots, that time was cut in half. Our bed is still small, but it started producing usable shoots this year and they are unbelievable. The shoots are thick and hearty and the flavor is better than any I've ever bought in a store. My husband saved seeds from these plants and is now starting a second patch. Highly recommend. If you want to plant your own asparagus, this is the way to go. We have been very pleased.

So far 3 of the four plants have begun to sprout small, thin asparagus stalks. No activity from the other 2 I received. However, I know shipping can stress plants so it is possible they are fine and are just taking their time. It's nor been quite a month since planting. Considering I bought 8 locally that never grew at all, this is a great growing rate! Thus, far I am satisfied with this seller. I will update if the others decide to wake up.Update 8/16:Not the fault of the seller. Only three plants sprouted and the others remain dormant (or dead) under the soil. The ones that grew are barely a foot tall and scraggly/sickly. It was a very, very rough season. (1) War with the Voldemort of chipmunks (2) It was terribly wet and soggy, not a lot of good sun, and then when it was sunny and dry it was terribly HOT. My entire little garden was struggling. We will see how things go after overwintering and spring.

Totally useless. Roots are completely dessicated. Can't imagine I'll get even one spear.

I ordered this after I saw an instagram reel of someone picking asparagus from the garden. The product came quick and with clear instructions. The individual plants were really healthy with really long roots. I planted some in my vegetable garden, and was trying to figure out where to plant the last two. I kept them in water for a week, and you can see in the picture I already have a full grown asparagus ready to eat!! So cool! Will be planting them soon, so we can enjoy for years to come! I would love to purchase more from these sellers!!
