A "dependable" pencil sharpener? Why not?!! I need a quality pencil sharpener that can dependably sharpen standard pencils AND colored pencils without causing breakage. I have used this model pencil sharpener for years and bought this one for my on-the-go kit. Never disappoints. To make things even nicer, it is designed to collect and contain the pencil shavings until there is a convenient time and place to empty the collection cells. My favorite sharpener.

I really, really like this pencil sharpener! Let me count the ways... Three sharpening holes, which accommodate multiple pencil diameters and styles. I have some colored pencils which are quite thick (the Derwent being the most notable) and which do not fit a standard sharpener whole. i hate having to buy multiple sharpeners, so it was very nice that this one can accommodate both diameters. Two sharpening styles for standard diameter pencils. With some colored pencils, I like the core to be long and thin -- those are usually the ones that are oil-based (i.e., a harder core). For others like the really soft cored colored pencils (think Prismacolor), I prefer to expose less of the core. This sharpener can handle both. Sharpens to a very point tip! Holds a fair amount of shavings before emptying, which I appreciate, especially when coloring on the sofa! I like this particular sharpener so much that I have three of them -- the original that I am still using after a year, and two for backups -- I am not taking a chance that they will quit making them!

The blades seem good and have delivered good results. I have no doubt over time the plastic hinge that attaches the two sides will wear and snap. But that doesn't mean the two sides won't still be useful - they just won't be attached anymore. Hardly a concern for the price and the good sharpening.

I also have the Prismacolor and Steadtler sharpeners and I have to say that this Faber-Castel sharpener is the absolute best sharpener for all types of colored pencils. It sharpens your pencil to a Sharp point without sacrificing much of your pencil. The colored sharpener is in the top part when you open the sharpener which gives you a great angle for sharpening. This sharpener grips your pencil as you sharpen it. This gripping of the pencil keeps the leads from breaking and shapes it to a sharp point without any significant pencil loss. I have sharpened Prismacolor Soft Cores, Prismacolor Verithins, Steadtler colored pencils and Marco Raffine pencils and they all sharpened beautifully with this sharpener. The bottom compartment has a regular and jumbo slot for regular pencils. I bought this pencil sharpener because it is the sharpener Faber-Castel sells with their Polychromos. There are three colors: silver, red and blue and I received blue.

i LOVE this sharpener. There are 3 different holes(one for colored pencils, one for kindergarten size and regular). It contains the mess and is easily/safely stored away(no exposed blades) I bought this sharpener specifically for the kindergarten sized pencils. It gives them a SUPER sharp point(which we don't necessarily need but won't complain about) without repeatedly breaking the lead or tearing up the area around the lead. In about 3 turns you have a really sharp point. Easy to take apart to dump and there are separate shaving compartments for the colored pencils vs. the others. highly recommend

With other pencil sharpeners Ive had in the past, I’ve had to replace them frequently because even when they were brand new, they weren’t a reliable product. I have nothing bad to say about this sharpener. It’s probably the best personal pencil sharpener I’ve ever owned. With just a few turns, my brand new pencil was perfectly sharpened. It’s small enough to put in my pencil bag, and it collects all of the shavings, with a good seal, so I don’t end up with a very dirty pencil bag. Highly recommend.

This is my 2nd purchase of this sharpener. I didn’t realize how much better a sharpener could be until I used this— so I needed another for my kid to keep in his art case. Graphite pencils, color pencils are sharp, the lead doesn’t break— all which makes your pencils last longer. Also it is easy to clean and dispose of the clippings. Previously I was using the standard pencil sharpeners from the big box stores during Back to School shopping. The much higher cost is worth it since it saves your pencils!
