Clif Shots for use in 50k
I ordered these for a ultramarathon I'm running this weekend. Usually I buy the GU type gels but I figured what the hell these were cheaper for the box. During my last taper run a light 3 mile run I took a clif shot get with me so I could try one out during a run so I could make sure the gel would agree with my system. Of course it is a bad idea to try new anything during a race. The gel itself didn't bother my system and it did give me a boost. But since my primary purpose to using the gels is to provide me energy during races and I hydrate on the go. I want to be able to rip the things open with my teeth on the run, gel then drink water. These packets required a lot of work to get open and this was just a taper run. Still I must use them during my ultramarathon and will update either way on how they worked out. But the delivery was damn fast and well packaged, that is a five star service. Many Thanks!!!UPDATE: After putting the Clifshots to great use during my past weekend's ultramarathon of 50k I had to come back and change my review to 5 star. Yes they worked, tasted great. They helped maintain my energy with no caffiene headaches or anything bad. To eat them on the run just put the top part between your back teeth then rip it off. I found them very convienent to carry and will also use the extras for future long training runs and also when I do some hiking. So I will buy more Clif Shots as needed.

They work great, weird taste! :)
Obviously the taste isn't gonna be the best, but it is kind of a good-bad flavor if you know what I mean. Kinda like a cheap honey with an earthy grainy flavor. Does the job great though, keeps me going for 10+ miles (road cycling). Don't expect other brands or flavors to taste better though. It is an energy gel, it won't taste good, so I am saying don't let the possibly bad flavor turn you away. They are a bit expensive, so I would recommend either making absorbent amounts of income or buying in bulk packs of 1000. Last a while though, and are worth it for the race. Happy exercising!

No problems with planning
Flavor is fine. When pushing through the run, I am not personally paying attention to flavor, but I was particularly impressed with this flavor. With careful planning, with appropriate water stops, I was completely fine with taking these shots. I am an old XC and track and field college runner getting back into it. Since my miles are increasing, I knew on my long days, 10 to 15 milers on Sat, I would need something to get me through last 3 to 5 miles. Having not used energy packets for ages, these made a huge difference. After having placed my water at certain locations on the route, I had no issues taking the gel and no stomach issues. Only use them on my long days in prep for a marathon in Jan. I know I would have experienced a sense of dread and possible "bonking" had I not take these shots.

Handy, tasty, effective.
I'm new to the world of gels. I find the texture something to have to get used to. I guess I was expecting applesauce texture - this is thicker, like melted gummy bears. When running and trying to breathe, a mouthful of this almost makes me feel panicky - like I won't be able to swallow it and breathe properly. But with a quick swish of water it's gone. (Unlike held that seemed to stick in my teeth for a long time.). It will take some getting used to. The flavor is great - very mild, not too sweet. And it appears to be as effective as the blocks I'd been using. The package is small, and easy to open. When squishing the gel out, the opening tends to get twisted - that's the best way I can describe it. Instead of feeling flat in my mouth, it feels like the opening is sideways. Kinda picky, I know. Just a funny quirk that makes the experience of using them on the run less smooth.I imagine by the end of the case I'll be an expert at using them and will have no complaints!

Tastes great, doesn't make my stomach hurt
Getting out and riding the bike is one of my favorite pastimes. As my rides got longer, I knew I needed to start thinking about adding a little supplement to my power through the miles.I tried Jelly Belly Sports Beans, but I just didn't care for the taste and the way my stomach felt after eating them. Being familiar with Clif Bars, I next tried two of their products, the Bloks and this product, the Clif Shot Energy Gel. The Bloks tasted ok, but they made my stomach turn in the same way the Sports Beans did. Then I tried the Energy Gel. They taste great and don't cause my stomach to feel nasty on the ride home. They're also small and flat, making it easy to throw a couple into a jersey pocket or a saddle bag.I do have one suggestion - I wish Clif would make a strawberry version of these WITHOUT caffeine. Sometimes I find I just want the carbs and electrolytes, especially when riding a few hours before bedtime.

I generally use Accel Gel or Huma Chia as those gels are easy on the stomach and digestion
Not too shabby. I generally use Accel Gel or Huma Chia as those gels are easy on the stomach and digestion.I bought Clif Shot because it was much cheaper and will get used for longer distance runs (13+ miles). Last week I used them on a chilly (30 degrees F) 24 mile run and they helped get me through. The taste is decent, but because of the cold it was thicker like one would get with an energy gel like Gu. Even when it is warmer it is somewhat thick. This had no bad effect on my digestion. If there are any cons I would say it is the tearing location at the top of the pack. What I did was cut a small slit into the pack top to make it easier to open.

Leaking Packets
I normally buy my gel packets individually from REI, but couldn't pass up this good deal. I've purchased a different pack of 24 before and had no issues with those. But this pack arrived and I could tell immediately that something was leaking inside the box. I separated all the packets, inspected them, and washed them to try and find the culprit(s). After I dried them all and inspected them again, I didn't notice any leakage and put them all in a Ziploc bag. When I retrieved one the next day, there was more leakage. So I'm still trying to find which ones leak so I can separate them from the rest. I just read some other reviews about people not receiving all 24 packets - well, I ended up with 28 in my batch.
