Imagine a Night

This is our 3rd book from this series. So many art books are aimed at adults, lots of commentary but too few images and some selections are not appropriate for youth. This artist's books are unique. The paintings are beautiful and the description is brief and inspirational.

This is a great book, but ...If I were looking at this book with a child, I probably would not read the text. Mostly, the text makes the image more limited and precise and inhibits the imagination.I love Gonsalves's work, but I have one quibble about that, too: the violin in the picture "Listening Fields" is being played backwards, with the bow in the left hand. I know that this probably fits better in the composition, but it is just plain wrong, and if I were looking at this book with a child, it would be hard for me not to mention it. It's like having a picture of a car where the driver sits in the back seat ...

The art in this book by Rob Gonsalves is wonderful!! It is filled with imagination and an awesome use of unusual, yet clever, perspective. Figures emerge from nature, buildings emerge from canyons, priests emerge from cathedral windows...the list goes on and on. The limited text in the book is more of a reflection of the paintings rather than the other way around. I didn't need the text for the book to inspire me. If I were rating the text alone, it would be so, so. The paintings are what make this book spectacular! The book should be considered for most all age groups. Even though it appears to be geared more toward a child audience (because of it's size and the typestyle/font), I wouldn't buy this book for a small child. However, I think it could be appreciated by those 10 and older.

I hoped that many of my favorite calendar pictures would be included in the book - not so. A number of his less interesting pieces are arranged with a "story" that is not a winner for me. I would prefer a book of his art rather than this child's picture book. I will not be purchasing the others.

We are all enjoying this book. It leads to wonderful imagination of other similar scenarios.

Love this artist’s work. This collection is a great way to enjoy his work without making a major investment.

4.5 really. Better than 'Imagine a Place' but not as good as 'Day' & 'World'.

I saw one of Gonsalves' pieces in an art store while on vacation. The piece jumped out at my as soon as I set foot through the door. I could only find original prints (all numbered) and they were all fairly expensive. His imaginative perception is very unique. All prints are quite clever and very vivid. I'll be keeping an eye out for a print, but until then I've got this book.I noticed some works are not in the book, perhaps they are recent.

Double images, optical illusions, terrific picture book full of imagination and fantasy.

Ever picture tells a story, rest your eyes and discover a new way of seeing, a a new path to journey.

Beautiful paintings but better off enjoying them on their own. Book feels kind of cheaply printed, and the little poems don't add much. The graphic design for the book is also disappointing next to the gorgeous paintings
