Northern Industrial Tools Heavy-Duty Electric Hoist - 2,000-Lb. Double Line/1,000-Lb. Single Line Capacity

I bought this hoist to build a freight elevator in my warehouse and it works great. I mounted the hoist on a steel beam between two trusses in my Cleary building so each truss is carrying half the weight. I built a wood cage on castors that I use to raise 9 totes at a time from the first to second floor of my warehouse then I wheel the cage to where I need it. The fully loaded cage weighs about 700 pounds and the hoist handles it like a champ.As others have noted the control cable is a bit short for some applications. To solve the problem I bought 20 feet of six conductor 16 AWG control cable. To make a longer cable, cut the control cable in the middle and splice in the 20 feet of new cable. Make sure you get your color codes right, stagger the cuts of the six individual control wires, strip the wires and splice them with electrical wire nuts, then use a roll or two of electrical tape to keep the connections apart and hold the cables so there is no pressure on the connections. Took half an hour to build a 25 foot control cable that works great.

This hoist has good pulling power but when it starts pulling a load it pulls the spool in a downward motion and the cable all winds on the down side and soon builds up and contacts the auto shut off lever and shuts it down. I have tried to change the position that it is hooked on top to achieve the proper balance but that didn't help. It is pretty much usless if you have to lift over a foot or two.

I bought two of these for a butcher shop. They a do a great job at getting me by until I can afford a heavy duty chain hoist. I have used this same model for several years to skin hundreds of deer per year. They are cheap but do hold up for several years. It would be nice to have a 20 foot switch cord. I remove the cord and run wires to a junction box down close to where I need it and then wire in the switch handle.

i have a welding shop this hoist has made things a lot easyer .came thru ups took it out of the box plged it in worked just fine.if you are just lifting up to 2,000 lbs works just fine.you wont beat it for the priceand it will save your back a lot of pain

The hoist is well built and sturdy. I have several smaller hoists apparently made by the same company they have been used for years with not problems. What should be noted is these hoists as have a mechanical brake which stops the load at a specific position. That is very important.

My husband bought this for work to fill up a hopper full of sand and dump it into an old time cement mixer. He said it's working great and making his life a lot easier at work!

The control is on a 5' cord. So why do you need 40' of cable if you cannot reach the control from the ground (even doubled over, it still can be 20' in the air, 10' above your head, and reach the ground)? Get a ladder, take a chance of dropping the load into the ladder, knocking you down and going to the hospital--or worse. OSHA NightMARE...
