Exoplanets (The University of Arizona Space Science Series)

Excellent! And at a price set by NASA to be attractive to students :-)
This is an excellent book. The level of technical detail is below average for the Arizona Space Science Series. This reflects the nature of exoplanet science: it is moving fast, so detail becomes obsolete. This should be contrasted with planetary exploration, where once the data from one mission has been chewed over, that's more or less it until the next mission. There may also have been a desire to keep material accessible to students - who are after all the spur to NASA subsidizing this book's price. The chapters are at a varying level of difficulty. What is common is that the chapter authors lift the lid on the problems of their subfield: both the practical snafus that every researcher must overcome, and the overall constraints keeping a lid on everyone's progress. This is a valuable service. This is a good time to produce an exoplanet science reference book. Enough time has passed to assimilate the first round of Spitzer and Hubble results, although ground-based direct imaging will soon ramp up. Kepler's discoveries orbit faint stars, so they will be difficult to follow up on. As a result, I expect the pace of planet characterization (not detection!) to slow over the next few years. For $25, there's really no reason not to improve your bookshelf with this book if you are an exoplanet researcher. However, if you are an impoverished undergraduate or similar, most of the chapters can be found in finished form on astro-ph (search "arizona exoplanets seager")

A detailed book for curious exoplanet lovers
This was the editorial book written and edited for the book in the same name. More detailed and covers astrophysics. Also covers how remote viewing was used to describe atmospheres of planets. Detailed book with solid math.

Organization lacking
This is really more a series of essays by different experts in the field than a traditional textbook. Organization is lacking - there are multiple chapters on similar topics which are not organized near each other, numbering of figures and equations resets in each chapter, it's not easy to tell at a glance which chapter you're in, or to find a needed chapter. I gave it 4 stars however because there really isn't much out there that's better.

excellent, detailed and informative.
Ordered due to my curiosity about exoplanets, and intent to do research on them later in my academic career (and because I'm a nerd). Was not disappointed in the slightest. :)

Excellent for graduate students and as a reference
Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of exoplanetary science (RV, transits, atmospheres, etc.). The authors chosen are exactly whom you'd want to be writing these pieces - i.e. Gaudi on microlensing, Seager on atmospheres. For graduate students this can be an excellent text to learn the basics of the field at a useful level of complexity. For people already acquainted with the subject matter, this book provides a good reference for many useful formulae and results with references (so no more digging through ADS to find the right paper).
