This book is a brilliant indictment that really highlights the problems and issues that are being faced by pilots today.
With flights around the world becoming cheaper and cheaper in the back of our minds we all know that costs are having to be cut somewhere along the line but the idea that pilots get paid wages that are so low they need food stamps doesn’t really permeate through when it comes to booking a bargain flight. This book is a brilliant indictment that really highlights the problems and issues that are being faced by pilots today. From the costs of going to pilot school to the low wages that pilots are offered, the modern day reality of working as a pilot is a far flung thing from the glory days of pilots being idolised. This book is a frightening read, but an important one, highlighting the issues and conditions that bubble under the surface of the air industry away from the scrutiny of the public eye. From the aircrash outside of Buffalo NY to the misery that is endured by pilots saddled with the debts of pilot school and a shocking low income that they have to survive on.Some of the most shocking discoveries that I made when this book included the fact that pilots are being paid for flight time which makes it very hard for some pilots to make ends meet and how many planes are shared by airlines, being rebranded for different flights. For many the idea that this can be going on right under our noses in an industry that has so many restrictions when it comes to security at airports and what you are allowed to carry when you fly.The most important thing to take away from this book is not the sad fact of how much pilots earn but what can be done to help improve this situation for the pilots and the passengers on airlines.
