I usually have my hair dyed "unnatural colors" and this product does strip the color a bit. I But I use semi-permanent not permanent hair dye which is probably why.

If something else is causing your scalp issues, the tar coal extract in this can still potentially treat and help the condition even if you use another shampoo. So it really depends on the person. I use a second shampoo but it still doesn't cover the smell.

If your child is sensitive to noxious odors I wouldn't use it. The smell was unbearable, and took several washes to get the odor out of my hair.
