An Interesting and Informative Read About an Obstinate Chief
Written histories are vital, and Walker deserves appreciation for his fine efforts. Too many people let their knowledge slip away without record. I ordered his book and received it in two days--immediately started reading it. I am pleased to see he has referenced tons of other works so I can further my knowledge of the Northwest Alabama area where I now live. He offers plenty of maps, images of historical markers and people, letters, battle notes, etc. A little editing would make this a better book, but nothing really distracts from the experience.

Walker is a Shameless Liar and Butcher.
Tripe. Garbage. Not true. Lies and more lies by omission. I could go on and on. This book is a (small and ill-written) tightly-packed piece of excrement portraying the Greatest Cherokee Chief in history in (my most positive terms in this review) the utmost incomplete version I have yet to encounter.Chief Double Head is buried at the furthest edge of my family burial plot close to the city of Somerset, KY, and has been there since I can remember - since Mother can remember - since the memory of all my living 17 Aunts and Uncles - every single one of my cousins - everyone in My Family since Grandmother and Grandfather lived and died - a VERY long time. To my personal and definitive knowledge, since 1892. My Family Burial Plot has been in the same place since the 1700's - those gravestones legible only via careful use of fine paper and charcoal rubbings. His? Marked by a flat rock and surrounded by great trees, ALL My Family buried around Him. We guard Him and His resting place after Vann and Sevier betrayed him. How do I know this?I am Tsalagi, AKA Cherokee, the First Daughter of the First Daughter infinitum. I am proudly (one of ) the 6th Great-Granddaughter(s) of Chief Double Head (how WE spell it - 2 words). How it is - and how it shall remain, through "The Telling" from First Daughter to First Daughter. Our Heritage, our Legacy, our very BLOOD has been insulted...assaulted...by this weak and demeaning book of lies and abundant omissions about the Cherokee Nation's greatest Chief, Double Head. Poorly written and skewed for a reason I have yet to discern. Certainly, secondary motivation abounds with YOU, Walker. You, Ricky Butch Walker, have erected a gravestone where none should stand. His Great Body is NOT there. I KNOW where it lay.Shame on you for creating such a work of fiction. You, Ricky Butch Walker, speak (and now, type) out of "side of mouth".You lie.Storming Clouds(Translated Tsalagi name)

Chickamauga Cherokee Genealogy at its best!
One of today's most popular hobbies is family research, but if ancestors are found to have a Native American connection, most researchers hit a brick wall. Rickey Butch Walker has pieced together many family puzzles for north Alabama genealogists with his book Doublehead, Last Chickamauga Cherokee Chief.Walker has painstakingly researched and shared his information to create a biography of one of north Alabama's most colorful Native American's complete with genealogy. Doublehead, Last Chickamauga Cherokee Chief weaves through time the life of this great man and his many wives, children, and extended family, from the Old Cherokee Nation in the hills of Tennessee to the Shoals of northwest Alabama. Walker has also shown through documents the value of the Tennessee River and its surrounding land to both the Cherokee Nation and the United States government and the struggle to possess it.Doublehead, Last Chickamauga Cherokee Chief is a must read for anyone interested in the history of north Alabama or family research in the area. There may be Chickamauga Cherokee Indians hidden within your ancestors.

Doublehead-Last Chickamauga Cherokee Chief
The reason I got this book was for genealogy purposes (both my husband and I are descendants of Doublehead through his daughter, Cornblossom). I found the book to be very informative. I definitely learned things I didn't know before, such as the fact that he had more wives than Creat Priber and more children than Tuckahoe and Cornblossom. I would recommend this book to anyone who claim Doublehead as an ancestor or just for the historical value. Great read!

Fascinating, Informative...
Walker covers a plethora of topics in this historical analysis of the Chikamauga and their leader, Chief Doublehead. From helpful genealogy, to the struggles of the early pioneering Southeastern US, Walker writes on the subject of important histories that every reader should look into regarding Native American studies and the untameable lands of the Cherokees and their neighbors.

I wish I liked this
I really wanted to like this book. Unfortunately, the first full quarter of it is taken up by background information about the tribes, various leaders, genealogy, etc., which read more like a research paper than a biography. There was also a great deal of repetition of facts, some distracting grammar and punctuation glitches, and way more information about various other characters than one would expect. It was almost as if the book was a biography of John Jolly, Dragging Canoe, or Christian Gottlieb Priber, since many pages were devoted to them and to several others. I was disappointed, but it was free when I got it for my Kindle, so at least I'm not regretting the purchase. If you're a teacher of Native American history, you might enjoy this book.

This a great book if you are looking for historical info
This a great book if you are looking for historical info. And I was, several of my white grand fathers married Cherokee women and the book opened up a lot of unknowns for me.
