We purchased "(Smithsonian) The Animal Book: A Visual Encyclopedia of Life on Earth" for our son's fourth birthday, and it has been a fantastic addition to his growing library. He is a naturally curious child, especially when it comes to animals, and this book has been a real game-changer. It is not just about identifying animals; it delves deep into the fascinating world of life on Earth.Starting from the basics, like single-cell organisms such as viruses and bacteria, to the more complex creatures like zebras and kiwis, this book covers it all. It has sparked some intriguing questions from our son, like why an ostrich in one picture looks angry while another animal seems happy. He was particularly taken by the kiwi, a flightless bird unique to New Zealand, because he was puzzled that it shares its name with a fruit, the edible berry of several species of woody vines in the genus Actinidia, also known as Chinese gooseberry. Explaining the differences between species, like centipedes and millipedes, also piqued his interest. One memorable moment was when he saw two zebras seemingly fighting in the book. He thought they were a mom and dad zebra having a disagreement, but it was a great opportunity to teach him about competition in the animal kingdom. This book has become a cherished part of our bedtime routine. Even when I am ready to call it a night, he wants to keep exploring its pages. It is truly a fantastic resource for a curious child, and we highly recommend it!

Beautiful book
This book is perfect for kids. The pictures take up most of the page. The animals that are numbered are described at the bottom of the page. There is enough information without being boring. The different creatures are fun to look at no matter the age of the reader :)

Beautiful, informative book for kids
Gorgeous book packed full of pictures and interesting bits about all sorts of animals. There is an index at the back where you can easily look up next time your kid asks. Great organization, layout and visuals, really worth it in my opinion even in this day and age of information at your fingertips
