Homeland: Carrie's Run: A Homeland Novel (Homeland Novels, 1) Paperback – September 3, 2013

This is an exciting prequel to the great TV series. Carrie in the series is a complicated person that is captured perfectly in this book. The only obvious flaw is knowing that Carrie and Virgil both survive the intense actions that they become a part of. The best part of this book besides the on the edge of your seat conflicts are the authentic descriptions provided of both Iraq and the US Marines serving there. Anyone who enjoys the TV series would be thoroughly pulled into this entertaining book with its drama, action and development of Carrie's character. If one is not familiar with the show, this is still an excellent introduction.

The first half of this book was great! It was fast paced, thrilling, had me on the edge of the seat, but the last half appeared to be written by a different person. The action slowed down and it was kind of laborious to stay with the plot. Overall, because the first half of the book was so great, I rated it 4 stars. Still a worthwhile read. It's Carrie before Brody and gives the reader a lot of background on her childhood and college life. No Homeland fan should miss this book.

If you watched the series this is a great peak into how Carrie and Saul got started. This is the second time I have read this book. I think the book is great! Lots of suspense and action throughout!

Carrie is a real person with real issues. She is strong, smart and intuitive. Living in a world dominated by men.

I had seen the TV series and was curious of how it all started and this book was a good primer.

Incredible. Mr. Kaplan makes it happen, and this book is accessible to someone such as myself who has not seen the TV series. Just great!I fell in love with the characters - though of course few are all good. Mr. Kaplan writes in such a way that does not require you to have watched the TV series. It's a prequel, along with Homeland: Saul's Game: A Homeland Novel (Homeland Novels Book 2), which is just as good. There is a list of characters, and a list of historical events to ensure that you stay on the right path - and I loved every word.

Reading Carrie's Run was like getting a bonus season of Homeland! Very well written and well researched! Keeps the suspense ongoing. Very fast read and very worthwhile.

As a fan of Homeland, I loved this prequel. The author knows the Middle East. He portrayed Beirut in vivid detail and stayed true to Carrie's screenplay character. He gives us a thrilling mix of action with insight into how Carrie copes with her stressful job and her bipolar disorder. I couldn't put it down. Kaplan is well qualified to write about Carrie's challenging career phase in Beirut. He sprinkles in phrases of other languages, but gives us translations and context so we understand the meanings. This is no cheap knock-off of a TV show; it's a top quality espionage thriller that stands alone. I'm eagerly awaiting the next one, and it will add dimension to my enjoyment of the next season of Homeland on TV.

We are ardent Homeland viewers and this book kept me as enthralled as the made for TV episodes. The characters were perfect as was all the description of sites. It was as if you were there & could picture everything happening. Can't wait to read the next one.

Wer die Serie kennt und mag, wird auch das Buch mögen! Es ist sehr gut geschrieben, liest sich schnell weg und gibt noch einmal einen anderen Blick auf die Serie und insbesondere den Charakter von Carrie. Achtung, kein Buch zu den Homeland-Staffeln, sondern ein Prequel!
