Awesomeness in a value package! Good info too!
**Warning: Short Review, Long Use Directions***How to use unit effectively*Overall, I am extremely happy with this unit. I feel this unit is fairly priced with the build quality in mind and the "bare-bones" of the unit itself. Bare bones being a good thing with this because its such a great value, and anything else would increase its price a lot and for what you bought this for (to find leaks) it will do that job super effectively. Looks like you can mount this to a pole or a tripod stand if either reach is an issue, or you know the leak is in a location but the leak is intermittent.I only got this unit in today, but immediately put this to use and put some tape over the speaker so I can have this unit close to me in close quarters work. Most likely not water proof, but if that is a concern and it's raining, put a tarp or umbrella up. Any other reason, there's more problems than just that gas leak your trying to find.Overview:Comes with a page to pretty much tell you this needs to warm up with the sensor powered on (the "click" from the sensitivity dial on side), what the unit does, and what you can expect from this unit. I thought the black part on the sides were at least somewhat rubberized, there not. This needs (qty. 3: AA battery) to be powered on, physical sensor housed at the red part of the goose neck. Count to around 20 seconds with the unit switched on with switch in front, and sensor powered on to "warm up sensor".How to set unit up:After warming sensor, just barely get the LED light on the "sense indicator" in front of unit to not light up any part of the indicator levels (in likeness to the unit being off). The speaker in front, in tandem with the LED indicators, will increase in level and intensity the more of a concentration is noticed in the air. You can test your unit set up with any gas source, like a butane source like a cigarette/barbeque lighter, a natural gas source like a stove top, or any propane source (I posted a picture of manual along with this review). How to use unit effectively:After setting the unit up and now able to use it for gas leak testing, you will soon find out when you put this unit into the area containing the leak, the unit will go crazy. This is the learning curve of the whole thing, and it's a small one: just adjust the sensitivity down to how you had it when you turned the unit on. This will effectively "desensitise" the unit so it wont go off when the sensor is in the presence of the traces of gas lingering in the air because of the leak. This works to your benefit because you already know the area of the leak, now you want to pinpoint the leak site. A lesser sensitivity will now only pick up when the sensor is in the stream of the leak.To practice this:Take your outdoor propane grill or a lighter turned down to just barely letting gas out, but don't ignite a flame. The unit will sound off to this. Decrease the sensitivity of the unit to where it's either not sounding off anymore or just barely going off (depending on your needs and/or situation). Now by letting more gas out, the unit will sound off more insensely. THATS HOW YOU PINPOINT A LEAK.That is the part where EVERYONE HAS FAILED TO DEMONSTRATE, from hours of googling and looking at videos on youtube, to reviews on here. There is a person who did a video in full spanish that either demonstrated this, or eluded to the fact that you can, on youtube.

It does work well.
I used this item to locate the source of gasoline vapors in the engine compartment of a houseboat with twin inboard V8’s.I have used it a couple of times now and am very satisfied with the use of the device. This latest use found an accelerator pump leaking at one carburetor. With consideration given to the price also, this is an excellent purchase.

It found two gas leaks in our house
Easy to use. We had smelled gas but couldn't figure out where the leak was. It found TWO. When the plumber came to fix the leaks, he said this unit was better than what HE had been using for leak detection.

Very hard to use with little to no directions
I am really dissatisfied with this Gas Sensor, Combustible Gas Sniffer with Sound Warning and Flex Probe. The product's lack of detailed instructions was one of my main complaints about it. Because of the vague and insufficient documentation, I struggled to properly install and operate the gadget. Since there was no obvious indicator, I had to assume that it was functioning well, which made me suspicious of the product's reliability. The flex probe isn't very sturdy, thus it was difficult to acquire a reliable result while testing for gas leaks. While I had high hopes for this device as a home safety aid, the absence of included instructions and poorly constructed flex probe meant that it fell short of its promise.I would not suggest this device to anyone since it is difficult to operate and does not offer the guaranteed level of safety for your home or place of business.

Sensitive. It was easy to operate.
Very easy to use. Clear directions. Detected immediately a gas stove leak that two service technicians did not. After detection I called the gas company and it was more sensitive than his device. Great price.

SAVED OUR LIVES!!! A MUST HAVE TOOL FOR EVERY HOMEOWNER.
This gas detector surely saved our lives. Just today I had the gas control valve replaced on our 40-gallon water heater. The contractor replaced the gas control valve and installed back the gas piping but did not test for gas leak before leaving. When the contractor left I decided to test the gas line that he put back using this Gas Detector Alarm. My hunch was correct as I found gas leaking on both sides of the gas pipe that he put back earlier. The Gas Detector Alarm went crazy when I placed the detector head on the two pipe joints that the contractor worked on. The Gas Detector Alarm LED light went all the way up to level 6 and the sound went very loud. Called back the contractor to fix the gas line and thankfully he was back in less than 10 minutes and fixed the gas leak. This is one device a homeowner should have if you think a lot about your safety. Very glad I bought it.

Worth every penny
I bought this a while back, but never had a gas leak, so really didn't know how well it worked. This morning I smelled gas in my basement. Got this, turned it on, and it "alarmed" like crazy. The closer I got to the boiler the louder it got. I called the gas company and sure enough I have a gas leak on my boiler. He found the problem and locked out the gas supply to my boiler. It's been an hour sense he left, and the windows are all open in my basement, yet this thing still detects gas in the air. I'm impressed how sensitive this thing really is.
