This is a fascinating glimpse into the making of foreign policy in the US during the Kennedy and Johnson presidencies, with a sharp focus on Vietnam. The spectre of ex-Senator Joseph McCarthy's Red-baiting is alive and well, even though the man himself is discredited and out of power. No one, not Kennedy, Johnson or their underlings, can afford to NOT see Vietnam through the prism of Communism/anti-Communism. This is what eventually leads to the US's defeat in Vietnam.
