PERFECT!
The media could not be loaded. Works perfect! Hobby machinist with bad eyes. Watching that wiggler drives me nuts! I was able to find 3 edges in less time than it would take to find 1 and you don't question it. The cheaper ones available are metric and it changes all the calculations and you need metric collets. There are 2 types, the cheaper one has a solid shaft that you need to be a little gentle with to prevent bending. For 3x the cost you can get the one with a spring loaded ball that can take a little more abuse. I am happy with the cheaper one for now, but wouldn't hesitate to upgrade later. AMERICAN made!

I thought it was broken...
Giving this 5 starts because it is doing what it is supposed to do. Could go down if it breaks easily like some of the reviews suggest. But until then (and it will probably be my fault), the repeatability is good. .0001-.0002 in any direction will turn the light on and off.The point of this review is to clarify that when I took the part out of the box, I first touched it to a piece of metal thinking it would light up. Nope. Then pushed it by hand. Nope. Took the battery out and was about to buy another. Put it in the machine (leave spindle off) and bam it lights up bright. User error. Documentation is not very good. Product seems as advertised.

Make sure to complete current on testing
The Fowler touch off probe brought our old Fadal VMC up to as close to par with our new HAAS VF-4ss with the renishaw touch off probe as it can be. New to the Fowler brand but after 2 weeks I’m happy with the purchase. Price vs work time it has definitely paid for itself. Easily installed with a collet holder. Real precise on making ground each time and lighting up. Tolerance is definitely as advertised. Only thing I will say is that you will need to make sure to test it with a complete current to make it light. Just tapping it to a table while holding will not work. It needs to be all connected to light up the very bright red light. In the machine is no issue. To make sure it’s as accurate as can be make sure you blow coolant off of the probe and the surface you’re touching off as the coolant will send a false reading. But we love this probe. Originally bought in case our renishaw went down but after messing with it in our older machine we left it in. Couldn’t ask for it to be better for its use.

2x Failures - user error?
The first one I ordered worked 1 time, for perhaps 30 minutes as I familiarized myself with the device. Then it went dead. The second one seemed DOA. But. I tried out a few things, and it turns out that the jig I am using is not conductive. I leaned a piece of scrap aluminum between my mill table and my workpiece...and, voila! It works. So - review correction: from 1 star to 4 stars, cancelling return Still -1 star, because I can't be the first person to experience this issue, and I wonder if any of the other fails/DOAs were because of this kind of issue. In both cases, new batteries replaced the ones that came with the device. In both cases, the little lead that contacts the body of the device was teased away from the LE capsule, to improve the contact with the body of the device. No fixes worked. 2nd device was sent back for a refund.

Awesome
Did what it's supposed to do.

Works!
Does what it's supposed to do efficiently. I like not having to spin up the spindle. The light is easier for me to see. Worthwhile investment.

LED is WAYYYYY too dim!!!!
Bought this with high hopes but this thing is awful. First picture is with the LED off second picture is with the LED on. No way I’m seeing this inside my CNC standing from the controller. Don’t waste your money….

I don't recommend for CNC
It wasn't able to form a circuit through a Hurco, and due to it's rigidity there is no safe zone so you have to be real careful feeding it in, I found it was faster to use a normal edge finder because of that since you can overshoot. There is a spring option that's more expensive but I think that would be better on a CNC since you have no hand feel. I gave it to a manual guy in the shop and it seems like he may use it after fixing it since it got a little bent while I was testing it. It's a neat idea. Check your machine for continuity between the spindle and work holding before buying.

The product does not perform like advertised
The product is supposed to produce a bright red light when touching work piece. The one I received, when touching work piece the light was barely visible from very close .And I tried different batteries

High price compared to quality
It ok....not greatIt was not 100% true ....

Fragile and poor quality
This electronic edge finder is very fragile, the sprung ball end is also very short (which restricts the use)Apart from the one I ordered arriving permanently illuminated,it also runs out when mounted in a new collet and clocked (you must not run/rotate them in use) it arrived in a nice plastic case which was great because that was packed in a single layer bubble wrap Amazon bag... very disappointing

Totally Innacurate
This has 15 to 20 thou run out of concentric. Useless - Stick to your cheap wobbler.

Five Stars
Super accurate. But because it's solid, care is needed. Happily recommend it for precision work
