Mad Men: The Complete Collection [DVD]

This is a review for the Complete Season 1-7 Deluxe Collector's Blu-ray Box Set (exclusive to Amazon). It's a fantastic product - presenting not only the TV show in its entirety in HD, but also a vast collection of 'extras' in a stunning case. Everything is housed in a sturdy and attractive slip-case; and within that is a large hardback 'volume'. Open that up and you're treated to several pages of glossy colour images of the main cast (akin to a photo album) - and inserted within each page are the Blu-ray discs. At the back of the volume are a bundle of 'extras' - including photos, letter-headed paper, a detailed guide to the show, a map of the office, and a host of other titbits. This is perfect for major fans of "Mad Men". There are 23 disc - presenting all 7 seasons (consisting of 92 episodes) - as well as many special features. The show is about a leading advertising agency in New York City, set in the 1960's. The story focuses on the business of the agency, and especially on the personal lives of the main characters - in particular, Don Draper (Jon Hamm). It depicts the changing social and cultural landscape of the time - especially 'race' and gender relations. Overall, it's well-written and brilliantly acted. Additionally, it makes use of the music from that period - and offers a fantastic soundtrack. This is superbly designed product - and is one of the finest Blu-ray boxsets I've seen. The only negative issue I have with it is that, by locating the discs within the pages, it's not always easy to remove a disc (and they could get scratched). Notwithstanding this limitation, I highly recommend this item. It's a very entertaining show - and is rightly recognised as one of the 'best ever'.

I am probably one of the last of "The Mohicans" to watch the series "Mad Men". I struggled with the first few episodes as it garnered more awards but just did not get it. When I got this DVD collection and I started watching, I could not sleep for several nights. This I now completely, unabashedly agree is one of the greatest series I have watched, well since "Breaking Bad". It's still a mystery how I missed it in the first place. However, with so many extraordinary series out there by very talented producers, it would take an early retirement to keep up. The Set Decor, the Clothes, the conversations? Absolutely timeless. Everyone should own this if they share the nostalgia of the way things were in the 60's/70's. I wish I could be paid to watch them. Now that would be the best job in the world for me :)

This coffee book set is beautifully presented. Yes, the disks are difficult to extract but as we watch one season at a time I simply take out the three disks for the season we are busy watching and put them in a spare plastic DVD case for the time we are watching that season. My boyfriend and I have just finished the first season and we loved it. Mad Men is beautiful to behold and intellectually mesmerising. Season 2 - Excellent! We start to learn more about each character and see some of them start to evolve. I will come back to update this review as we finish each season.

Go on treat yourself it's worth every penny. Visually ravishing - a total feast for the eyes, what a joy it has been to rewatch this again after a few years - i think it may be even better second time around. Totally immersive and addictive. Worth the price for the joy of watching Roger Sterlings acid trip again. GROOVY.

Glad I bought this as I'd managed to watch every episode up to the first half of the final season, but then was unable to watch the final episodes, so had to wait until I was able to afford the box set. Now that I've watched the entire series I can say that I absolutely love it, although I'll admit (without spoiling anything) it took a few days for me to mull over the final scene of the series and actually appreciate it as a great ending to an even better show. Aside from that, I won't go any further in reviewing the actual show, but I will say a few things about the box set. I bought the Complete Seasons 1-7 Blu Ray Collector's Box Set, and first off the series looks and sounds amazing in HD. There's also an exclusive bonus features disc which was a pretty interesting watch after finishing the series, featuring interviews with the cast, creator Matthew Weiner, a few key members of the production crew, and an archive of some of the prominent ads from each Season. There are some other nice additions to the set, including photographic art cards, replications of a few prominent letters/memos from the series, and a replica of the SC&P office plan from Season 4 onward. The set also includes a couple of sheets of headed paper from each version of the Sterling Cooper agency that appeared in the series, but in all honesty they're not exactly exciting additions to the set. It's also somewhat disappointing that, at the current asking price (over £70), this deluxe set only includes a few printed extras. Other international versions contain much better gifts, including replicas of Don Draper's tumbler glasses, which would've been much nicer, and given the subject matter of the show being about advertising, and the prevalence of certain ad campaigns throughout the series, perhaps some art cards featuring key ads from each season would've been a better choice to include. The set itself is presented in a large box containing a sturdy, cardboard 'book' style case, featuring a folder at the back (containing all the gifts contained in the set). Each two-page spread of the book contains the blu-ray discs of each season of the show slotted into pouches, and this is probably my biggest gripe with this particular version of the set; not only is the case far too big to fit in amongst other, traditional box-sets, this storage format also makes it very difficult to actually access the discs as the pouches hold them so tightly. I believe there is a good chance either the discs or the case could be damaged fairly easily due to this. It's a nice set, but there are some design choices that I feel were a mistake. I bought this version as it was on offer at the time, and actually worked out cheaper than the standard edition, but I'd say if the prices were at their normal levels, then the standard Blu Ray set is a better choice, as there's not really enough included here to make this version worth buying over that one.

What more need to be said of Mad Men, One of the finest TV shows ever made. I was hooked after the terrific first opening scene. Not a dull or average episode in the whole series. Magnificent piece of work.

So happy to finally own this! I noticed people complaining about not being able to play them in Canada? Not sure what that was about, sounds like an error by the shipper, not sure why it can't be rectified. The media is in NTSC format so it's all systems go. Excellent show, within a week I'm already into season 4. Good watching!

Il cofanetto è fatto abbastanza bene, la grafica è molto semplice e all'interno ci sono svariati gadget che intrattengono/divertono chi li estrae; il vero problema è riuscire a far uscire i dischi dalla loro confezione: sono duri da tirar fuori, e la cosa fà spazientire. Diciamo che è un problemino non da poco, ma ho comunque scelto di acquistare questo cofanetto perché obiettivamente non ci sono molte alternative per chi vuole un blu-ray di Mad Men sottotitolato in Italiano (o almeno, io non sono stata in grado di trovare altro). In ogni caso, il mio ragazzo è stato contento del regalo, essendo una delle sue serie preferite e mancando, prima di riceverla, dalla sua collezione di dvd.
