Q: How well does this heater work? In other words...will it heat a larger tent such as a roof top tent?

I have a tepui ruggedized Kukenam xl. This thing will run you out of the tent on the highest setting, lowest setting works great. I did have to extend the hoses that came with it, as they are a tad too short imo.

Q: how long will the propane tank last?

I take to mean that if I take a two week trip at 40F temps, I'll have to take14 - 20 tanks of propane with me?

Q: How long will this run in a car battery? Do u guys use it inside the tent or outside?

Zodi says the fan pulls 4.4 amps. A battery store should be able to calculate run time for you. See the product manual for placement of the burner and the hose ends. I keep a CO detector inside when I use any fuel burning product even if they are "tent safe".
