Denon D-M41 silver
Initially i was looking at cheaper systems like roxel and panasonic among others which i'm sure are pretty good in their own right but after much research could no longer ignore the reviews of this little beauty and then finding out that What hi fi magazine had awarded 5 star ratings for best mini hi fi and best hi fi under 500 pounds on several occasions, i now felt sure i had to buy it or forever regret getting a cheaper one. This Denon d-m41 is a wonderful piece of kit Quality look Quality feel Quality weight but most of all Quality sound, you'll never get a mini system that provides the thunder of a full size power house but that's not the point, it is what it is a bookshelf system the treble is fantastic you get all the guitar strings and cymbals etc crystal clear and the bass has an ample punch. Treble and bass are both adjustable from the remote which by the way is a nice size and very clear to read mine came with flat batteries. Preseting dab radio stations and adjusting treble bass and other features are all easy to do once you've sat down with a nice cup of tea and pick up your smart phone and ask Google anything your not sure about, the answers are all there, you will probably need this option because although the Denon comes beautifully packaged with polystyrene and everything the instructions are very basic that said i do highly recommend also its a good idea to buy telescopic aerial if you don't want the unsightly ribbon type that hangs up the wall. I brought a bingfu magnetic type which easily has strong enough magnet to stick to the side of my metal shelving unit allowing full extension of the 79mm aerial and hey presto dozens of crystal clear dab radio stations. Love it. I've since added an edifier T5 subwoofer to this package it fits in beautifully with its very similar build quality and looks but WOW what an amazing and rounded upgrade to the sound quality especially as my speakers are now nicely run in. This whole package has become an outstanding piece of kit. The subwoofer probably took me the best part of a couple of weeks to get it just right a tiny adjustment at a time but very much worth the time and patience, the end result is a wonderful little hi fi system. If I could go back six months i would definitely buy it all over again. I'm now buying CDs like they're going out of fashion, OH they are? Never.

Brilliant bit of kit!
I bought this for my Nephew (who still lives with his Mum) as he had no way of playing his CDs (so many kids these days seem happy with just an iPhone and some earbuds. When I left college way back in the late eighties, my first pay check went towards a big stack system that was all the rage back then!). He has this in his bedroom and is super happy with it (I gave him some additional QED speaker cable that I had previously used with my Naim setup as this was better than the supplied cables). The sound is exceptional for something at this price point. It’s easy to use, and he’s even connected it to his TV via HDMI to use as a soundbar (although to be fair, he mainly uses his TV with his Xbox and a headset but does play the occasional Blu-ray movie).

Great sounding, quality package
Great mini hi-fi system. Ideal if you have a room without the space for separates. but even so this sounds so good you aren't really compromising. Really well made and put together little system, everything you need including aerial for DAB and FM, speaker cables too. The main unit is solid and sturdy and the speakers that come with it sound great. Most importantly, brilliant sound quality - clear and detailed but with decent bass and depth - from both the CD and radio and excellent price considering all you get.

Very good but not perfect
The construction of this unit seems very good, reassuringly weighty, assembly is a breeze, setup easy.I am struggling to get the tone set how like it though, my old Panasonic seems to be better in this respect when it just had an old fashioned tone knob, the Denon you have to play with the SDB Tone function and try the speaker bungs in or out, I will get there no doubt but it's a bit of a phaf, having said that Analog in from a turntable sounds very good, I listen to anything from Choral classics to Led Zeppelin so this may make it a little more problematic having such a wide taste in music, I wish it had pre-set faders to enable switching between music styles. The aerial isn't very long as is the speaker cables I can only manage to get a 4ft separation of speakers where my unit is so factor in you may have to extend the cables to get a decent stereo separation I am going to extend both. Please don't be put off with this review, it is a good machine for the price point, I don't think you will be disappointed if you pay £299 - at £399 well then perhaps there is better, maybe, maybe not.

Super Denon!
Well, I have to say that i've been searching for a CD unit that would do my film soundtrack collection justice. This is by far one of the best sounding mini hi-fi systems that i've ever had or heard! This little beauty packs a hell of a punch! Easy to connect, wires in speakers, plug it in and you're set. The volume goes up to about 40 i think! It's hella loud at 21 so please spare a thought for your neighbours! There is a bass and treble SDB button which i think means Super Dynamic Bass which you can adjust to your requirements.Solid machine, well built and fairly heavy so you know it's quality.Just a couple of gripes but they aren't dealbreakers. 1. There isn't an Eject button on the remote so you have to press the button on the unit to open and close the tray. 2. At first i thought the unit couldn't play CDR discs. You know, your own ripped cd's. The display read 'Unsupported' when i put one in. All you have to do to play them is press play on the remote WITHOUT closing the tray first! Try it! I'm good eh!?Thank you Denon for this powerful beast of a machine. Also has Bluetooth which is an added bonus.Very pleased with this so kudos to Denon. If you like your music loud but beautifully balanced, this is the unit for you. Happy listening!
