Still a Legendary Classic Fighting Knife
A prior reviewer stated that years ago he purchased a similar Gerber knife for about $30, and now he is complaining about the present price. Well, in 1972 I bought a new Corvette convertible for under $5,000 OTD. A similar new Corvette today would cost about $50,000, but I'm not blaming Chevrolet. The quality of the Command II is excellent (equal to earlier Gerber knives I still own from the mid 70's). The fit, finish, blade sharpness, sheath and case were all flawless in my example.Amazon currently [Dec./2011] has an excellent price on this item, well below the retail price.Although this item is being sold as a commerative, it is still 100% functional as a fighting knife; no decorative fragile handle or gold plating on the blade! If military service is taking you into "harms way" or you just want this type of fighting knife to add to a collection, the Anniversary Edition Gerber Command II is very highly recommended.

Gerber Name but not Gerber Quality...failure on all levels
Having carried a Gerber Mark II for over 20 years and multiple deployments, I know what level of quality Gerber is capable of...this knife is not it! Poor quality, fit and finish are awful, the leather sheath is made of leather, but from what animal have no idea, its really poor quality (looks and feels cheap). For a Knife that is suppose to be a limited edition, and they are all labelled 0001 of 1500 on the top side of the blade, you have to turn it over to see the actually serial number. This is a mass produced, poor quality attempt at making a limited edition. If you are a serious knife collector or appreciate the early days of Gerber quality, don't order this knife you will be disappointed. And, to bring my point home, the nicest part of the whole thing is the display box, top quality and finished very well...wish they had paid that level of detail with the Knife itself. I'm going to clean the dirt and guts off my old Mark II and put it in the display box. NOTE: It took me over an hour to clean the rust and oxidation off of the blade.

Good knife, but...
Owned one of the originals. Think I paid about $30 for it at the time.3 bills now?Proof positive that there's a sucker born every minute.

Gerber Command II 30th Anniversary LE Knife
The 30th Anniversary Command II knife is true to the original version with a couple of exceptions:- the blade is made from CPM-S30V steel. The originals were made from 440C steel.- the leather sheath lacks the quality of the original. The sheath is also designed differently. The original sheaths are slightly wasp shaped, have flat tips and a military belt hanger (M1910). Additionally, the Gerber sword-in-stone logo is not embossed on the original sheaths. The knife and display case are made in the USA. I don't know where the sheath was made.If you collect Gerber Command IIs, the 30th Anniversary version is probably essential to your collection.

Gerber Commando Mark II 3Oth Anniversary Limited Edition Knife
Awesome Gerber Knife : ) They give you the impression that the serial number 0001 of 1500 is the first knife of the series but they all say 0001 of 1500 : ( Oh well. It's still an awesome Anniversary Knife and would make a great gift to anyone who loves beautiful knives : )

Numbering issue...otherwise great.
I like this model of Gerber knives very much. I was hoping this issue would prove to be a collectible, and it might turn out to be one.My concern is the numbering on the knives. Instead of being numbered serially, both knives I ordered were numbered "1 of 1,500". I kind of wonder if there were really only 1,500 produced. It's a crazy world we live in!

Not a Mark II, But Still Cool!
I had a Gerber MK II that I took to Vietnam in 1970, lost it when I was evaced to the States. Can't afford to replace it with one from that period, but this one is high quality and pretty close. Going to get another sheath as this one is not same quality as the knife.
