While the dust can be scraped off but it's a useless product otherwise
Didn't work for me as it leaves a white dust effect on my painted mdf board designs. I wanted to protect it to increase its longevity but this spray spoilt it in the beginning for me. While the dust can be scraped off but it's a useless product otherwise.

My usage of this product is very off-label, but I'll still share my experience with the product. I'm vintage sewing machine enthusiast, and the finish on my favorite machine is very compromised. The numbers on my stitch length indicator were all worn off. I tried painting the gold in but failed, so I got a gold wax marker and filled in the engraved numbers. That wore off really quickly, so I started looking for something that will protect the crayon. I would have used regular polyurethane clear coat, but it doesn't stick to crayon. My research (as well as Amazon's Rufus) tells me that this works over crayon, so I'll give it a whirl. Not as shiny as the parts of my sewing machine that still have shellac on them but it blends right in with the other parts. If I can ever be bothered to reshellac the machine, I'll just add a coat of polyurethane over the top of this to make it match.

Per the photo, this puts a perfect matte finish on tabletop miniatures. This miniature has several layers of paint on it, with lots of blending and dry-brushing, and the matte finish from the Rust-Oleum can is exactly what I wanted. ZERO shine! I've sworn by Testors Dullcote for 15 years, but the cans are tiny and cost just as much as this much larger can of Rust-Oleum finish. I've tried Army Painter, too, but sometimes the cans turn out to be slightly glossy, which is a disaster. Well, as it happens Rust-Oleum owns Testors, and the formula for Dullcote is basically the same as the fomula for Rust-Oleum Specialty Matte Finish. And the quality control is solid. You want matte finish, you get matte finish. The big difference is the nozzle. Testors has a smaller nozzle. I like the bigger nozzle on this can because I tend to apply finish to several models at once.

I am restoring ancient indoor door hardware that is 100+ years old. Once the old paint was stripped, this really brought out those details in the metal and will protect the metal for many, many, many years to come.

I purchased this to save writing on a small blackboard. While it preserved the writing, it also faded it a bit into the black background
