Lord of the Butterflies (Button Poetry)

I still have tears in my eyes. Absolutely beautiful. I don’t think I know how to put into words what this collection of poems is doing to my heart right now, but I want to send copies of this book to the people I love the most.

I never liked poetry before discovering Andrea Gibson. Almost every poem either makes me laugh or cry. Some do both. I just seriously love the hell out of this book. I gave it to a few different people for Christmas. People I wanted to share some joy with. I guess the question is, do you need some joy in your life? Some real tears about somebody else's experience? Well then, what are you waiting for?

This book is jazzy, full of tongue-in-cheek metaphors & just plain awesome. I love Gibson’s many love letters. I love their sense of humor & how they write about what hurts but still make it sparkle. I saw them perform in 2012, & it was such a magical experience. I get a taste of that experience every time I read one of their books.

This is the best book of poetry I have ever read in my life. As a non-binary artist, most of my theatre-making is centred around creating space for trans and non-binary performers to exist or advocate for themselves. It is so profoundly meaningful to hold Andrea Gibson's words in my queer hands. To see someone else who uses they/them pronouns be so widely accepted and loved for their artistry means the world to me and helps me to imagine the possibility of not only my work but also the work of other queer and trans artists spreading across the world. BUY THIS BOOK. You'll likely need multiple copies. Buy one for your coffee table at home, one for your office and one for your purse because I promise you: one day you'll come across a stranger or a friend and they will in need of some poetry that strikes to the core of their being and you will be a hero in that moment because you'll be able to hand them this book without skipping a beat and make their millenium.

Whoah. I just finished reading this cover to cover. I am so inspired and moved. This beautiful collection touches your soul in forgotten places you’ve neglected for years. I laughed out loud and I dogeared a majority of the book.I bought this on the reviews- and I am blown out of the water. Will use selections in my 8th grade English class.

I have followed Andrea Gibson for awhile on social media through her Button Poetry spoken word videos. Ordered this book right away and breathlessly read the volume, even going so far as to dog ear my favorites. This is a volume I intend to come back to again and again. So grateful to Andrea Gibson for sharing her gifts with us. Buy it!

This newest work from Andrea is a collection of some of the boldest, bravest, most poignant poems I've ever known. They make me laugh, cry, rage, and despair. I buy this book as gift for anyone who matters in my life so they can be affected they way I have by Andrea's beautiful words.

So beautifully written. V pure and honest

I bought this book as I was sick of all my favorite poets being dead. Andrea writes magnificently, it seems there is no end to their talent. I loved all their poems regarding grief and mental illness. Very insightful!

I've FINALLY discovered poetry that I love! I read a poem each morning and let it sit me throughout the day. Outstanding!
