good book
Sounding philosophy in atmosphere/living planet is awsome but leaves a question of why it will not sound in space?

Very heady and boring
This was more like a phd dissertation than a book on sound. The reviews looked good so I bought it, but could hardly get through it as it was so dry, intellectual and boring. Would not recommend.

ClichΓ©d and uninspiring re-hash
Dissapointing re-hash of new age-y babble and 3rd party quotes - after an interesting start the author seems to dwell almost entirely on the western 12 tone music system and clichΓ©d tropes.I was expecting a much deeper exploration of this fascinating subject area, but this left me wanting on both the musical and philosophical levels.Would not recommend, even as an introductory text :(

Brilliant, Insightful, Evocative
This is simply one of the most fascinating books on this subject I have read. Berendt's thesis is intriguing and he explicates it clearly. His knowledge of the music in question is deep and profound. I have given this book as gifts to musician friends, and cannot recommend it too highly for anyone interested in music & quantum theory & questions on the nature of reality. Beautiful piece of work.

Essential reading for anyone interested in 'bottom-line' consciousness.
An exploration of the nature of sound, vibration and harmony, which draws on many sources; musicians known for their inquiry into the nature of spirituality and consciousness: Sufi Hazrat Inayat Khan, Ravi Shankar, John Coltrane and others. I read with this book with such a sense of 'home-coming'.
