Doesn’t disappoint!
I ordered this trimmer after my trusty old packed up.I’m the sort of guy who doesn’t like to be clean shaven, who’s skin doesn’t like razors but who also likes to have some fun every so often and push the boat out with a carefully crafted manscape(in every sense of the word). The most important thing to me is to provide an even shave - I have used past products with adjustable lengths that don’t quite provide an even cut, nor the definition of different lengths with in their range. My first eagerly anticipated trim with this clipper was nothing short of revelatory! I trimmed my 3 weeks or fluffy/beardy stubble in intervals in order to text the different length settings and it really doesn’t disappoint. For a low to mid range trimmer I really haven’t experienced anything as precise! It isn’t worth mentioning that because of my skin not like razors I have to get as short as possible with the trimmer so to create a clean shaven feel and this really does do the trick. From short designer stubble to a short(but neat) beard this product really will tickle your pickle.Important to myself is also the charge time. I spent hours sitting through different clipper models to find a product that takes less than an 8 hour charge for a 45 minute shave. This trimmer took less than an hour to full battery and though I haven’t used it enough to evaluate if it holds an hours charge (as it advertises) it isn’t holding power with ease and panache.Which swiftly leads me on to my third and final selling feature which is the claimed ‘DYNAMICS BEARD GUIDE SYSTEM’. When I read this I also thought WTF but being one of amazons more rogue customers thought I would take the punt. I can confirm the DYNAMIC BEARD GUIDE SYSTEM is ACTUALLY a thing and it ACTUALLY works. Despite shaving my beard in 17 intervals to see the difference between each of the 0.2mm difference in trimmer lengths my shave was even and took absolutely no time, and thus conserving battery and giving me more time to do important things like compare trimmers on Amazon. I don’t know what witchcraft Philips has invented with this system/technology but I assure it does what it says on the tin, and it works!I spent more on this product than I was looking to spend - but I am glad I did. The product is a great every day grooming tool with as much precision and efficiency as it advertises. It feels, and looks, fantastically well made compared to most of the plasticy comparisons I have used in recent years and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again. One thing to note is that the plug is 3 pin uk plug (something I couldn’t find on the product info) which was a pleasant surprise. Please take my word and give it a punt.I’ve never used ANY Philips product before, but this product has quite literally converted me.

Good value. Good for newbies. Great buy.
I'm really happy with this. I'm a total beginner to beards. I've let them grow before, but more out of laziness, and once I started to look scruffy I'd shave the lot off! This is my first attempt at "maintaining" a bit of growth. I find the trimmer easy to charge, adjust, use and clean. The end result is an nice, even cut. No pain or hassle involved. The trimming options are (in millimeters) 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. The result you see in the picture was with the trimmer set to 2.5. So basically, you've got a lot of options and a sensible range in which to choose from. I could have gone much higher or much lower.I really like that the trimmer operates either by battery or mains. A duff battery in years to come won't render it unusable. That's how it should be. Shockingly some shavers don't allow this, even by the same manufacturer: my newish Philips Aquashave refuses to operate when plugged in.Tip: I nearly didn't bother to read the instructions because it seemed so simple to use. Just beware that you've got the plastic "hair guard" that slides on and off (top of the second picture), but the blade head (middle of the second picture) also lifts off and you're expected to clean this occasionally with the small brush that's included in the box. That's the only thing in the instructions that I thought might not have been obvious unless you read them.

Does the job
This trimmer (Series 5000) is built sturdy and can go from 0.4mm to 10mm (1cm) with the guard on.Good points- Built sturdy and should last long- Battery life is good- Does not accidentally change lengths when pushed on unlike some other trimmers- Mechanism for changing lengths is good- Fast charging (60 mins)- Quieter than an electric toothbrush- AffordableBad points- Does not have a 2 pin plug, however the battery lasts long enough that this shouldn't be an issue- Guard seems quite flimsy compared to the trimmer, however it has not been an issue even with rough handling- Hard to manoeuvre for line up/detailing but its not really made for that- 10mm is not that longOverall, a good trimmer for what I paid (£30). Seems to be better value than the rest and does a good job trimming.
