Review: The first Goth Girl book was recommended to my daughter by her friend and she loved it so much that she quickly worked her way through the next 2 and pre-ordered the fourth well before it was released. The fourth instalment has been enjoyed just as much as the first three and she's starting to re-read all of them and she's given copies to her friends as gifts. It's no wonder that Chris Riddell was selected as the Children's Laureate, as every detail of this series is perfectly crafted, from the bindings to the illustrations and the cleverly conceived narratives. These are proper books, in the sense that the physical book is as much part of the reading experience as the words on the page. Beautifully bound and illustrated and well written, with plenty of references to Gothic and Victorian literary characters, amongst others, the stories captivate the young reader and entertain the adult reader (if they're allowed the occasional opportunity to read to their child). With multiple references to literary classics, particularly from the era of the Gothic Novel and Romantic poets, these books also encourage the young reader to potentially read books that might stretch them a bit more. Yes, the references might seem slightly over-worked from an adult point of view, but it's no mean feat to achieve an attention-grabbing children's book that both entertains and subtly educates them and this is Chris Riddell's genius (in my opinion). My daughter identifies with Ada and her adventurous spirit and once she starts on a new Goth Girl book, she cannot put it down. We're already looking forward to the 5th instalment! From the point of view of a 10 year old they are a fun and easy introduction to the joys of reading a good book and have been declared "Brilliant and hilarious!". Review: Disappointed. Wanted a good story for my 8 year old grand daughter. Women kissing is not okay for this age group.

9yr old grand-daughter very much a HarryP fan and an avid reader loved these books. Very much suited to her age range. She highly recommends for 9-11 readers.

I found this book to be quite enjoyable. The font is large and easy to read, and the narrative is straightforward and simple to follow. Although it is intended for a younger audience, I believe individuals of all ages would find it to be an enjoyable read.
