Great film, get the UK release.
Wonderful movie, I've seen many times. The criterion restoration including the extended cut is nothing short of stunning. I have the UK region 2 as I was worried that even though the US version does play fine on a UK bluray I was worried the colours may look washed out compared to the pal release..

Extraordinay edition of a master work
This is the best available edition of Terrence Malick's magna opus. The detail of the packaging is excellent. The additional contents provide insights into Malick's body of work and this movie. However, being such a deep and complex work, I feel more content was needed. This edition contains both the original 2h20m (theatrical) cut (disc 1 plus extras) and the new, extended3h cut (disc 2). They have both excellent sound and image quality, as well as beautiful menu design. Both discs are region-B compatible and play correctly in my region-B player (no multiregion player is required), which is not clearly explained in the product description (Criterion editions are advertised as Region-A).

Great edition.
Nice edition with 2 blue rays. Extended version and Cinema Version. It's a pity that it is not 4k. Some extra feature like interviews with the cast and peole involved in the film. I recommend it.

Mostly leaving this review to say that it DOES play on a UK Blu-ray player.Another dimension has been added to one of the greatest pieces of cinema ever.

Outstanding
Ambitious Malick masterpiece that tackles the mysteries of life, meaning and existence. I can think of no other movie that does such a good job of conveying the scale of creation/existence that most of us struggle to even glimpse. Beautiful to watch, feel, experience and reflect upon. Visually sumptuous and deserving of a large, high quality screen. Demands a lot from its audience and offers a lot in return. Deserves repeated watching. The dad, mother and oldest son are superbly acted. Loved that much of it were set in the 50s and 60s, a bygone era. One of my favorite Pitt performances. Hard not to empathize with his character, a father shaped and trapped by the societal conventions expected of fathers in that era to suppress emotions and be tough. The Criterion version is well-worth if for any fan. The extended version has more dialogue and more time spent on the characters. Both versions are great. I watched with subtitles because I didn't want to miss a word. Doesn't necessarily answer any of its profound questions, but the asking alone is profound. "Who are we to you?" Probably 99% of the audience has not thought as deeply on these questions as Malick, so its well worthwhile to behold his take expressed in the form of an exquisitely crafted epic movie.

Beauty only Malick can deliver . . .
I have watched ToL twice in the past (more than a year ago) but the added 50(?) minutes of the movie was so expertly blended in one would hardly notice it. The soundtrack was complexly redone to compensate for the extended scenes. I've got to go back and watch the theatre release version but the extended version feels like a recollection/recall of the wonders and wounds/healing of life rather than the original's discovery and acceptance.

"Qualità" è la parola d'ordine
The Tree Of Life è un film di squisita fattura, nulla da dire a riguardo.
