A Professional Artist Who Loves VanGogh Oil Paint On My Budget
I'm a professional artist that has been painting for more than 40 years, and during that time I've tried so many products for my work. Earlier on in my painting journey, I believed that expensive meant "better quality" and there's some truth to this but not for all products on the market. Being "young ,broke and just starting out" I had to use what I could afford and Vangogh was one of the first budget paints I tried and I fell in love with them! The colors are consistent with what they are called ie, Ultramarine Blue is just that and is comparable to the more expensive paint. The pigment to oil rate is perfect and I can use it like I would with the more expensive ones (some products contain too much oil and not enough pigment)and the paint doesn't slide off or absorb into the canvas but I do prime my canvas prior to painting. A little goes a long way and the mix ability is great as well, the colors don't wash out or turn gray, they stay true to the base color. As you can see in the picture the painting I'm working on has plenty of "white" and I've blended it , or used it right out of the tube. They are my go to for oil painting on a budget without the budget look!

a good way to save money
this oil paint works well for me so far, so far so good. I need to use an professional artist grade paint but also need to get a good price so I took a chance on this larger tube and because I liked it I bought their raw sienna color next in a larger tube also.

Great buy
Loved this paint. It does have pockets of oil come out along with the paint, but you can just mix the oil into it and it was no big deal. NIce amount of butteriness and well priced. Will buy again.

Lid won't last as long as paint!
The paint is great I only wish they would come up with a Lid That last all the way through without GUMming up. No matter how I clean as I go the problem is there.

Contains Zinc... Not Good.
The media could not be loaded. For those of us who are looking for an archival type of oil paint will and should stay away from any that contains the pigment number (PW4) as this pigment(zinc oxide) has been well studied and documented. It's clear that zinc oxide reduces the flexibility of paint, and less flexibility means a higher risk of cracking when stressed. This brittleness develops over time and is not usually obvious within the early months of a painting's life. It starts to become apparent thereafter when compared to non-zinc oxide pigments..The problems with zinc oxide are unique to oil paints because it interacts with free fatty acids found in the drying oil to form metallic soaps. Because acrylics do not have fatty acids, this particular issue is avoided altogether..I for one don't paint in acrylics so I must refrain from the use of zinc oxides in my oil paints altogether, if and when I choose a titanium white oil paint, I instinctively look for the pigment number PW6(titanium dioxide) and nothing else. Many modern branded oil paints(usually the cheaper or student grade) like to adulterate titanium white with zinc oxide and to the unknowing will be getting a poorer quality product because of it. However there are plenty brands out there(which I will not name, as this isn't the place to do so...) that choose to make a titanium white oil paint with solely just that, which is titanium dioxide.Hopefully this information reaches you and helps educate those who wish to have their paintings stand the test of time; even if it doesn't make into a museum! 😉
